I was wondering if a motherboard can affect the voltages on rails? I just send in an Antec Smart Power 500w for making a whining sound, this was the second time I had to RMA it. I decided to just buy a new power supply. I purchased the following power supply:
http://www.directron.com/fsp55080glc.html
Here are the voltages I am getting (these are from the BIOS, SpeedFan is similar)
vdimm 2.62
vcore 1.68
vdd - 1.58
+5 - 4.65
+12 - 12.64
vbat 2.88
5vsb 4.99
There's no way my system is taxing a power supply with 4 12v rails.
I remember the Antec's voltages were kind of similar. Could it be my motherboard is killing power supplies? I am upgrading after Christmas, but just wondering if its safe to use my desktop til then. The motherboard (Epox 8rda+) was RMAd for leaky caps, but who knows if the motherboard I got back is supplying bad current or something like that.
EDIT: Or could it just be my motherboard sensors are really bad? Unfortunately, I don't have a multimeter. This is a possibility, as a lot of people are having quality control issues and experiencing the same 'whine' problem with the Smart Power series as I did.
Thanks.
