Hello Folks,

Purchased this bundle: Intel DG965OT mATX MoBo & Core 2 Duo E6320 & 1GB ram Bundle for $99 from MicroCenter (discused here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1400029), put it together with a 750W Cosair PSU, a seagate 1TB hard drive, XFX GTX 260 graphic card, and a Thermaltake Element S mid tower case.

Once finished putting everything together, switch on power, no sign of life. PSU fan not on, CPU cooler's fan not on, graphic card's fan not on, the mobo's led light comes on, but that's about it. Double checked the PSU, tested it, and its functional.

What could be the problem here? Is there any way I can test the Mobo as can be done with the PSU as described here: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...-without-a-PC/?

Thank you in advance for your support on this.

Best wishes,
nanotech

Have you tried the PSU in another computer to make sure it works? Even if it'll turn on using the paperclip trick, it might not actually work in a system. Also, if you have another PSU to test with, try hooking that up to the PC. Also, try removing the video card and trying the system with just the onboard graphics. If none of that works, you may have a dead motherboard.

you sure you got the 4-pin connector plugged in? Make sure you don't have a standoff underneath the mobo that is shorting the board to the chassis.

Sounds it could be PS, mobo grounding issue and last dbl check whether mobo 12v to PS is hooked up.....just something to think about.

Guys,
Thank you very much for your input.

I am trying to get another PSU to test out as well as using this PSU to test with another system. Hopefully, this this will narrow down the situation.

With current set up, I have tried both with and without the dedicate graphic card, still no action. I have the bare nessicities hooked up outside of the tower and still no action. So I think this ruled out any chance of what Smooved pointed out about standoffs.

by this, do you mean the 1394a mobo connector pins? The only 12v connection in see from the mobo schematic is that 1394a.

I see, in that case, its hooked up. the cosair PSU does not have a dedicated 4 pin, so I tried both the 8 pins and 6 pins connectors. With the 6 pins, nothing happens. But the 8 pins allows the PSU fan and CPU cooler fan on for a brief moment then off again. I can reproduce this by turning off the power switch and then on again. Would be nice if they would stay on.

But nothing else would jump into action. Again, what could this be?

The 6-pin shouldn't fit since it's a PCI-E power connector. You could damage the board by plugging that into it. But anyway, it's sounding like a motherboard issue. Try the suggestions in this thread to confirm though.

Zero,

Thanks for the info. I updated my post above while you posted. Upon carefully checked, the CPU fan also comes on when the PSU fan comes on, but both don't last long, no more than a 1-2 sec.

Took out a working PSU from a another system, connected that PSU to this new system, and all though the PSU fans fires right up and stays on, the CPU's fan temporarily fires up and then die off after 1-2 scec as before.

Hooked up the Cosair PSU to the old working system and am typing this now with it hooked up and firing/supporting this old system.

This then must conclude that the mobo in the new system is not good, correct? If not, what might be other thoughts to negate this conclusion?

That pretty much narrows it down to the motherboard or the CPU, and it's probably not the CPU.

When this happened to me a couple times, once it was the cpu, the other it was the mobo. Good thing I have a Fry's not a couple of miles away from my house.

Did you remember to put the thermal paste on the CPU? Just a thought. You might be getting an overheat warning on powerup that's shutting it down right away. If that's not it then it's the motherboard.:(

Even without a heatsink altogether it would take a little while for the CPU to heat up enough to trigger the thermal protection. Certainly enough to start the POST.
