Ok, i can't believe how dumb i feel about this one but...

I have two Servers running at home, both Win 2003, both running DNS, Active Directory, IIS etc. On both servers and ALL clients i do not get the DIRECTORY item when i go to NETWORK PLACES. What gives, this is where ACTIVE DIRECTORY is supposed to be displayed right? I can get at all the shares by typing in or mapping them via UNC but...

What am i missing? surely is has to be something to do with ACTIVE DIRECTORY publishing? all my clients are XP PRO and Win 2K

Strange! I got to get this before i go any further with my certification i feel like such a HAM-BONE!!

regards

owen

Ok since I'm not going to be on too much I'm going to bit eht eh bullet and ask: Have you joined the computers to the domain?

Yeah I just had to ask.

yep. Both servers also which host the domain, can not view the DIRECTORY via the network places, works fine via the MMC though!

when you goto add a network printer does it display the directory? I believe with w2k3 the domian just shows up under my network places.

found solution on another forum..

The DIRECTORY VIEW function was in Win2k but removed in WinXP don't know why though! anyway here's the scoop on how to enable it

take the file dsfolder.dl_ from the i386 folder on your Win2K CD or folder. Use the expand function to blow it up back to it's original size

Copy it to your System32 folder
Then use the RegSVR32 function to register to your system32 folder on xp

Then you get the following...

Active Directory View 1

Active Directory 2
