Need to replace the old 8500 128mg in the den. want something uber quiet so i can drop it into the living room machine shortly, so whats my best bet?
6600GT? X800? I'm looking for something with either a quiet fan or easily moddable and reasonable performance in HL2, F.E.A.R., etc...

I have an HIS X800 Pro, and it's very quiet, as it comes stock with a VGA silencer. Can't hear it over my case fans.

Leadtek 6800GT or Ultra...

Huge cooler... very low rpm fan. Near silent.

aaaa. my bad, forgot to mention its gotta go in a shuttle (SN41G2) and have a usable PCI slot (TV tuner)

Theres X700s and 6800s kicking around with heatpipe coolers on there as stock. But with the limited airflow in a shuttle i dont know how well theyd do. Assuming its a HTPC (guessing if tehres a tuner card in there) then you probably dont need anything more powerful than youve already got.
I really dont think youll find a fanless card with any kind of performance jsut because your case has so little airflow. Youd be better going with a stock fan, but one of the brands that has thermal control on the cooler, so itll be quieter when youre not using it.

I think all new nvidia cards have thermal fans, that was the reason people were getting such high temps with some drivers. I know my gainward does, but it isnt quiet on any of the settings, so that prob wouldnt suit. Check over at silentpcreview.com they usually have some good stuff.
