Edit to your edit: I'd say no, unless your case is made of lead and other sound proofing material.
 
not totally sure exactly how loud 55dBA are, can someone give me an example? if i get a tornado, ill more than likely have it hooked up to a fan controller or something..

The "Xblaster" is complete crap. Don't believe the numbers at all.

You want a powerful 80mm, you call Delta. You call Delta and you call your nearest earplug manufacturer.

55dBA isn't that loud, but it's all white noise, so it's painful for most folks. Ever been in a colocation? Those fans are 45-55dBA. It's extremely loud.

Me, I like Delta GHE and XHE's (when I can get them.) For an 80mm? You want a Delta 0812EHE.

The Tornado is louder. That fan should give you a GOOD idea of just how loud 50dBA+ is though.
 
Thanks for the link with the sound FX.. damn thing sounds like a vacuume cleaner..

Ive heard of these sound dampening kits, what exactly are they and how well do they work..
