Hey all, I was wondering what you guys thought was the most OCable system; in other words, with what setup would I achieve maximum efficiency with the maximum OC?

Obviously, there are choices to be made, first and foremost the CPU. AMD or Intel?

Then, the motherboard, then the RAM, and then the HDD/GPU (I just want them to be able to handle high clockspeeds).

Please let me know what you think would be the system with the most room to OC, thanks!
 
I think in terms of sheer overclockability, the Mobile XPs are still the champs. Granted they can't go much above 2.6-2.7Ghz without some serious mods and watercooling, but given they start in the 1.6-2.0Ghz range that isn't bad.

Based on that, considering mobos, the DFI Lanparty rocks for high FSB speeds. The older NF7s do well too, but not so much the newer ones. RAM-wise Corsair XMS series RAM or older BH-5 chips are still tops.

Ideally I'd put a Mobile 2600 with a Lanparty, 1GB of Corsair XL RAM, 2 WD Raptors on SATA RAID, and probably a 6800 vid card. Might not be the fastest overall system out there, but in terms of the OC possible, it should do well.
 
ehh.... no SATA raid....
everyone should be informed that raid-0 is useless for the average user/gamer, and even in server settings it is unreliable for data storage (as proven by storagereview and anandtech)

update: i'm planning to use the Koolance EXOS Al system, should i get the GPU/HD/Mobo Water Blocks also? Or just the CPU? I was also thinking, if i don't use a northbridge waterblock, that i'll put my CPU-HSF on the northbridge instead of the default passive cooling :D

What do you guys think?

the goal of this system is pure and simple, i plan to FOLD (http://folding.stanford.edu) :D

with that in mind, are there any new recommendations?
