Although this study only confirms what most people have always known, it is still nice to see a video game study with a common sense conclusion for a change.

A Swinburne University of Technology study of 120 children aged 11 to 15 revealed children prone to worrying, neurotic behaviour and predisposed to aggression were likely to be more aggressive after playing violent video games.

I've always been one who didn't feel that video games should be blamed for the worlds problem..

However, claiming that a study only makes "common sense" when the outcome is in line with your beliefs is a little biased-- no offense at all meant by that. It's just that, strangely, studies aren't supposed to use common sense at all; or in other words, studies should not be tainted with our own intuitions or senses.

We need to keep an open mind; if a study did determine that kids are more aggressive after playing violent games, we need to be willing to accept that, rather than accuse researchers of lacking common sense. Fortunately, several studies have shown the opposite, and I would have to agree that the "blame-the-video-game" crowd are losing legs to stand on.

Common sense is never common when studies about the link between gaming and violent behaviour is done. :p

/gasp!

Who would have thought?!? I'm so surprised. And for a minute there, I thought I was some kind of freak because videogames didn't turn me into a mindless killing machine...

Quite true. There really has never been a link between gaming and violent behavior. There HAS been a link between seeing violent behavior in REAL LIFE, and then being violent in real life.

What we really need to do is having parents stop beating their children, have fathers stop whacking their wives in front of their children or at all and vice versa, start putting children who are physically assaulted into therapy before they feel that it is acceptable to be violent, etc.

Interesting

My dad used to beat me silly. I have friends who went through the same thing and we all turned out fine.

What is really the problem is that "parents" rarely exist anymore. When I was a kid I was allowed to watch any movie I wanted or play any "violent" game I wanted and my parents would sit me down and explain on how it was fake and I shouldn't do what I see in the movie or game.

The kids who do violent crimes and then they blame it on the game or movie is mainly the fault of the parent because they relied on the game or movie to be the babysitter and teach the kid everything.

See sig about common sense ;)

If you want violence, go watch cartoons from the 50s-60s (and even before that). Now that was much more violent than today's crap, plus more entertaining :D
