Most efficient client/setup?

Hey guys,
I am selling my quad core (q6600 @ stock) on ebay to cover a bill and also am getting ready for the 45nm quads to arrive. I am going to replace it with either an E4400 or an E2180. Both of these cpus will be clocked @ 3.1Ghz or higher, depending on their FSB wall. My goal is 3.4-3.6Ghz. I have both the SMP client installed as well as the GPU client on my X1950PRO, and I also run World Community Grid. What do you guys think about using both the GPU/SMP client? This box runs 24/7, and hardly gets any gaming time. I want to maximize my PPD and also ensure that running the two F@H clients aren't fighting each other and costing me time/points. I really love o/c'ing, and F@H has become my new hobby, as I don't game much because of terrible migraines. What do you guys recommend?

Well, based on your question I think my answer is "Why are you gearing up for 45nm if you are selling a processor to PAY A BILL?!?"

Also, you don't run SMP and GPU at the same time (unless something has changed in the last year to make it viable.) SMP eats up the full processor and GPU requires some CPU to operate, making it a wash or a less-than-ideal point earner to do so.

At the moment on a quad the best combo is running 2 Linux clients inside VM's.
2 quick protiens will give you ~800 PpD boost in PpD.

Even under Vista the points gain from running the GPU client with the SMP one is less than with 2 VM's plus you'll use an extra 80-100 watts running the vidio card at 3D speeds.

BUT from the folding forums ...........
"There's a plan to change the points system to better reflect the scientific value of each WU.
Also, there's no indication about what will happen to the PPD or which projects will be changing."
So what works best, in terms of what to run on what, may all change if/when this happens.

Why I'm selling the processor has nothing to do with my request for help in trying to maximize the points I can earn for our team. I was in a serious car accident last week that totaled my truck and cost me a lot of lost time on a project. I was going to sell the Q6600 along with my MB anyway to jump to a P35 board and a 45nm quad. I just sold the Q6600 on ebay for $231, which is more then I paid for it new. I have about $4500 coming back in taxes within a few weeks, so I'll just move the dual core to another system. I just figured since I had a 1950Pro that I could run both, but I guess that isn't the ideal setup. Also are there any setup tweaks that I should try? I've always just used the single client GUI in the past.

If this is planning on being a dedicated box, then use the SMP client. Nets the most points. If your going to game on it, I would use one standard command line client and then one GPU client when your not gaming.
