Who knew that most computer attacks originate in the United States? I guess it makes sense, it’d just be so much more convenient if we could blame it on someone else…you know, like Canada. ;)

Researchers at the security software company found that about a third of all computer attacks worldwide in the second half of 2006 originated from machines in the United States. That makes the United States the most fertile breeding ground for threats such as spam, phishing and malicious code, easily surpassing runners-up China

This is a surprise? We have the most computers per capita... statistics speaks.

What I mean to say is that we have a good ratio of computers per capita but we also have a large population.

Does this mean that most of the 'Bots' that are hijacked in the US, or do the Viruses/Spyware that actually create these 'Bots' reside mostly in the US?

It makes sense. The US has been sitting on it's proverbial ass when it comes to fighting these criminals. I can see why other countries would use us as their 'bots'. They don't have any fear.

well... we already own the title to world piracy, i don't see why we can't add this to our resume ;)

The world title of Camcorder recordings of movies, which isn't illegal in Canada. Who actually downloads camcorder recordings, is beyond me. Seeing as how you can download the DVD before it is even released to retail.

I would think that the US is more likely to be the most infected PC wise than it contains the most hackers. Look at most of the people around you - co-workers, family, etc. and think about how many of them would even know they have an infected PC. The only way they would notice is if they had a screen sized porn image popping up every time they tried to do anything. And even then, how many people would 'eventually get around to fixing it', and how many would continue to use the PC anyways.

where are the big attacks from though? an organized hacker group in russia is a little different than johnny leet playing with scripts in his moms basement.
