Well,...im thinking i want to upgrade my system for christmas,...but im looking for the best "bang for my buck".

Specs:

P4 2.6C@ 3.3.....254 FSB
Abit IS7 Rev. 2
2x256 Corsair XMS PC3200
WD Special Edition 80GB
Aopen 16X dvd rom
Aopen 48/12/48 CD-RW
Radeon 9700np


Thats about it for specs that are performance related except for the drives,...my system runs games pretty damn good but i feel like im kinda old school here....I run it 3.3 24/7. Opinions welcomed

I'd probably add another 512mb of RAM.

If you play a lot of games, I'd get a 6800nu.
 
Its hard to tell you what to upgrade unless you give a max price to spend. Another 512MB of RAM would probably benefit you the most followed by a new video card.
 
I'd definitely throw in another 512MB of RAM, but might wait until I could afford an X800 or something video card wise. Or, if you have an old crappy monitor, why not buy yourself a new monitor? It's the one piece of equipment you'll probably have the longest.
 
If you have a 9700 np right now, DON'T get a 9800 pro because you'll waste your money.

Everyone here was right in saying that an additional 512 megs of ram will help you the most, and that's cheap!

After that, if you're a huge gamer, try to get a 6800 non-pro, that will keep you warm for a while.

If you don't game that much, and you find that your loading times are slow, you might want to check out a new, faster, hard drive. Chances are your hard drive is getting full and maybe you even have stuff in the background that's slowing you down.

If your board supports SATA, a little Raptor hard drive would cheer you up, and you could add it to your existing 80 gig.
 
Regulaer SATA drives don't load games very much faster than his 80gb Western Digital, considering that he has the special edition, meaning he has an 8mb cache. A regular SATA drive might load it a second quicker, but nothing too noticeable. Raptors on the other hand, would load things a bit quicker.

EDIT: Also, hard drive space is a very personal preference. Lots of people don't need more than 80gb, myself included. Lots don't even need that much. It's just how ever much you need, if you only have a gigabyte or so left it might be a good idea to get a new hard drive
 
Either a good videocard(6800nu/gt) or 512ddr and a bigger hard drive...

I think i am going to go with a 36GB raptor along with another 512 xms.....what all will i need to install the sata drive?

My IS7 has onboard sata 150,...but im not sure where my SATA cords and driver disk is,...so can anybody point me in the right direction to what all i would need,...thanks guys :)

EDIT: Found my sata cable,...looks like one has power and 2 other connectors go to sata drive and mobo,....SCORE. Plus,...i also found my sata driver disk so it looks like im set,...thanks everyone

Your better off buying a good WD or Seagate 160GB or larger HDD instead of wasteing that money buying a single 36GB raptor. A single 36GB raptor isn't going to boost your overall performance that much and your still going to have limited storage capabilities.
