You know those games, that everyone seems to be raving about, but you yourself, no matter how open minded you are, just can't get into. I'm not interested in blind bigotry. So please only list games that you actually tried at least once.

To those who have seen me around this forum know what my obvious answer to this is, but there are others. So without any particular order:

    1. Battlefield

I cannot be accused of not trying, I played BF1942 on LAN, it was probably my least favorite game to play at LAN parties. Then I skipped a few years, and tried BF 3, but didn't last more than 10 minutes with it. I skipped BF4, regardless of having a copy bundled with my GPU at the time. And just a week ago I picked up BF1, for a very low price, but I think it's a big pile-o-poo. Worst purchase of 2018 for me. So I won't even bother with BFV as it has the exact same structure. It seems to me that in BF1 single player is nothing but an afterthought, it's so bad, that I'm not sure why they even bother at this point. At least I'll never be on the fence about buying Black Ops 4, ever.

    2. Starcraft

Yes, I never liked it, never liked the original, and didn't like part 2 either. Can't really explain it either, I played a lot of RTS games at the time, and it's not like I was a Westwood fanboy, as I did like Warcraft 1-2. And played the third as well can't say I loved that one though, still more so than Starcraft 2

    3. MGS V

Yes, this is a big one. And a game that I dislike most from all generally praised games, I think it is utter garbage. It's an abomination created by a self infatuation junkie (Yes, I mean Kojima san) So you don't have to wonder why I don't give two flying ducks about death stranding.

    4. Max Payne 3

Let's call it soft hate. This game barely makes it on to this list, and probably the only game on here that I actually finished. But my opinion on it is much worse than the general consensus. It's not even the game that was too bad, yes it had a few gameplay issues, but I think this game raped Max Payne, the character. It threw out everything I loved about the first two games. And what it added instead I didn't care for. They turned something unique into just another generic shooter.

    5. Assassin's Creed

I mean the very first game in the series. It made such a bad impression on me that I haven't touched any other parts of the series until Odyssey. Which in retrospect might have been a mistake as Odyssey was great. But I blame AC1.

    6. Mirror's Edge

Probably the game that I tried to get into the most times. It just didn't work out, I even played Catalyst but that fell to the sidelines fast as well.

    7. Dishonored

It had everything, but a soul. I can't describe why it couldn't keep me engaged, but the second part had the exact same problem, I lost interest in it even faster than the first.

    8. Prey

The 2017 game. Most seemed to like it, and it tries to copy almost everything from System Shock, but it just fell flat for me. This is a mystery even to me, all I know is that I felt nothing while playing it.

    9 The Witcher

Yes, here it is, the big gun. I played all three games, didn't finish any of them. The first game was dull and I disliked the gameplay. The second was OK, but combat was terrible, but what really made me quit was the character of Geralt. I was almost halfway trough the game, when one comment from him put me over the edge, and I quit the game, never to come back. And and this carried over to the Witcher 3 as well. Believe me I've tried to find anything likeable about him, but I couldn't. That combined with the gameplay issues I had with it meant that it is not a game I wish to waste time on, especially not hundreds of hours with characters I'm not invested in at all.

    Bonus round.

    MMOs

I know it is not a game, but an entire genre, but I just couldn't get into it. Here is the list of the games that I tried, some more than once:
    APB
APB: Reloaded (it only got worse since the first iteration)
    Defiance
    GTA Online
    Star Trek Online
    Star Wars The Old Republic
    The Elder Scrolls Online
The Lord of the Rings Online
    World of Warcraft

I'm sure there were others I don't even remember. But all MMOs are the same, they suffer from the same issues. Most have mechanics that would be laughable in a single player game. Terrible lag, player pop-in, and most of all, tons of noobs, and out of character elements, who are just there to ruin your experience. Fetch quests, and farm quests, where you can see hundreds of other players doing the same quest as you. No, that's not immersion breaking at all...

This post got longer than I expected, I hope you don't mind, but don't care if you do :p

Yeah, The Witcher 3 is one of the most overrated games ever. Yeah, they "fixed" combat compared to the previous iterations, but they made the abilities a little too easy and repetitive. And I just didn't feel like I understood anything that was going on with weapons or equipment (in regards to combat). They just sort of paved-over the entire stats system in the game intro (use spell, dodge, parry, reposte...THEN WHAT?), with no clear path forward. Continue casting the same spells you started with, and continue hacking away at enemies with the same sword you started with...for quite awhile.

If you do multiple quests and none of the dropped weapons are better that your current weapon or equipment (or you don't receive a reward upgrade), then there's no RPG progression of your character.

The quests are clunky-as-hell as you're constantly switching between your Witcher Sense (TM) to see anything of note, and getting too disoriented to keep track of things around you. I've also found that there's no clarity about objectives required to complete a quest, so it can take you minutes to find something that should have only taken a few seconds.

I also don't get the impression that any of your choices in the conversation trees matter at all, which takes away the only interesting part of the quests.

It's a beautiful open-world simulation with nothing interesting to do, other than stare at the naked chicks in cutscenes.

I didn't like the first game, and In totally skipped the second game (because even the mega-fans agreed that it was broken compared tot he first and third).,

    All right I'll play

    GTA

I tried a bunch of them, not sure why I bothered buying more then one since I don't like any of them, tried V a couple of times, ran out of quests after like 10 orso, the only one I can still find I can't reach cba too keep looking.

    Far cry

Last one I tried was 3, it looks bland, gameplay is atrocious imo. Too much sneaking around also. Gave up around 1/3 in

    Shadow warrior 2

Shooting feels off and enemies are bullet sponges this one I did finish

    Persona 5

While this game would be nice if they removed the go to school/home parts and restrictions to how little you can do in one day. Total immersion breaker.

Sim city and other sim games

I don't get how these work, I build some stuff and after 15-30 min I'm out of cash with nothing more to do but wait and hope more cash comes in.

    Morrowind

Never got into it, the constant "loading" pauses every 10 steps were annoying as hell, the walking speed slow enough to make me fall asleep and the graphics pretty much atrocious. I did enjoy Skyrim.

    Metal gear solid

Only played the first one on PS, gave up pretty fast as I found out that stealth games are not my thing at all.

Metal Gear Solid in general but five was horrible. A lot of games have the "your somehow crippled" mission in them but its towards the end. COD was bad about that. They did it right away. It took me a few days to go back to even try the game after that because I just didn't care and lost all interest.

Assassins creed went full clowncar and I've given up. I thought they were going somewhere with the modern times part and it became clear they didn't really have a story in mind.

Hitman series. I always liked the idea of it, just didn't like how it was implemented in the game.

Battlefield/COD both have just gotten worst it seems. I just don't care anymore.

Titanfall 2. I hated the game yet loved the first.

    I'll agree with this.

I tried time and time again over the past decade to fall in love with this series. It has unfortunately never happened.

I can't quite put my finger on why....

The Witcher series is like House of Cards to me lol

I know it's good and I've tried many times to get into it, but it just never clicks.

    - Another for me would have to be Crusader Kings 2. The Game of Thrones mod looks awesome but for the life of me I can't get into it....

    Metroid Prime.

Absolutely did not like this game. This series was never meant for FPS and it did not translate well at all. Platforming sucked because of the of the non-FPS controls on the Gamecube and...well just about everything but the music sucked. I really tried to like it and only finished it because it would have been a waste of my money otherwise.

I think what really did this game in, for me, is that it was way too slow. Samus just moved and jumped everywhere as if the entire game were underwater.

Mass Effect - uninteresting and 3rd person view.
Quake 2 - boring, brown, ugly levels. Horrible A.I. even for the time.
Metro games - Were OK at times, but overall just not fun
Shadow of Mordor - repetitive, repetitive, repetitive, repetitive,
Prey - Had potential, but progression got very tedious and boring.
Farcry - All games after the first one. Repetitive, scripted, QTE.

I'm sure there are many more, but that's off the top of my head.

FO:NV. Most FO fans love it, in fact almost all, it drove me nuts because it had invisible walls all over the place to stop you from avoiding trigger choke points. Fuck that lame shit.

Yeah, the invisible walls were annoying, still the game was better than anything bethesda did with the franchise.

Prey 2017 - it was boring, and not even related to the original which was a mistake. It just wasn't fun and the story sucked.

Skyrim - Skyrim... well also boring. Yeah there's a few moments here and there of action, but it's just such a tedious game, and, it's way overrated. The only props I give it are the mods which keep it afloat.

Gears of War - Gears of War was alright, but it just never felt right. I only played the first two, the others might be better. I mostly don't like the aesthetics.

It seems like I don't like boring games. Boring is subjective - neither Skyrim or Prey held my attention. If a game holds my attention, through gameplay or story, it's not boring.

I forgot a big one. Zelda Breathe of the Donkey Balls is a fucking horrible game. They wanted more RPG elements and didn't put a system in to support them. The weapons were made of paper mache and you couldn't repair them or buy most of them. It made it so when you found something in the barren world you didn't want to engage because you didn't want your weapon replaced with a stick.

Agreed, best implementation of FO by far, really enjoyed that just the invisible walls killed it for me. Very few people run into them, glad to meet a fellow true wasteland explorer ;) It also looked to be a much better game for exploring (the layout of the land) so it was such a let down not being able to go wherever you'd normally have no worries in FO3, Skyrim, even Oblivion etc.

Absolutely agreed. The weapon/gear upgrades did bother me a bit when I first started, but once you realize that your main goal for equipment is to locate and craft the Witcher gear for the type of playstyle you want, it's great. The rest of the gear is just filler crap that you dismantle or sell, it'll never hold a candle to true Witcher gear (why would you want regular shit, when you could get Witcher quality stuff?). It does have its issues, don't get me wrong, but the game is absolutely fantastic. Incredibly detailed lore backed by the books, and awesome presentation overall. It doesn't really deserve to be called overrated. That term should be saved for the heaps of shit out there that actually is overrated, like Call of Duty or Battlefield (didn't use to think so, but it's just so formulaic now, and not necessarily in a great way).

For me, to stay on topic:

Fallout 4 - Couldn't get into it. Between the garbage animations and the shit bugs that cropped up quite often, I couldn't play more than 4 hours (surprised I lasted that long).

Reading through some of the ones you guys picked, makes me wonder what games you do like.

Disregarding styles of games I just don't care for (RTS and most military shooters), I'll be controversial and say Red Dead Redemption 2. I loved the first game, but everything about this one is tedious. I feel like I never have time to play or have fun exploring because I'm too busy worrying about my 35 random meters. It's like a job getting to the fun part.

I'm with you on a few items in that list. I didn't care for the Witcher 1 or 2. I never touched 3 because I had no interest after playing the first two. I liked Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 2, but felt let down by the others since. I've enjoyed the single player campaigns in BF3 and BF4 well enough, but that's about it. The multiplayer just isn't for me. I'm pretty good at shooters but for some reason I am not good at Battlefield's style of combat. Its probably because I came up on arena / twitch shooters and the game play of Battlefield isn't suited to that. Although, I was pretty good at BF2. Bad Company 2 I enjoyed, but I only excelled in tighter maps which lends itself to my arena shooter theory. I was disappointed in BF3 and after buying the highest end version of that I vowed never to do so again. I got BF4 when they practically gave it away. I played the single player and enjoyed it. BF V holds no appeal for me.

Assassin's Creed 1 was a game I got for free with a video card. I've since received a few of the others the same way, but the first one is the only one I've played. I didn't care for the game play or the pacing of it and I haven't touched anything else in the series. I too tend to dislike MMO's. I've tried many of them on your list and I didn't care for them either. Star Wars: The Old Republic is the only one I stuck with for any length of time. I still play it a little bit here and there but I think my time with it has about run it's course. I liked Starcraft but, nothing else on the list was high enough on my radar to even try them. I liked Max Payne 1 & 2, but heard nothing good about 3 so I skipped it.

I did play Metal Gear Solid 1 on the Nintendo. I never played any of the others. I'm not much of a console gamer. If any of these made it to PC, they never made it on my radar. I own Mirror's Edge but never fired it up. I don't think I've ever installed it.

Borderlands - horrible first impression stopped me from going past an hour.... but I'll give it another chance someday
Dead Space - horrible controls/fov on PC, killed an otherwise cool concept/vibe...
GTA Vice City & San Andreas - just can't get into the characters/story even after a dozen hour try... I liked GTA 1-3, never tried the newer ones (currently playing through Mafia which I like a whole lot better)
Bioshock - also horrible FOV, really kills it hard... pretentious art style & delivery (or maybe I'm a system shock fan boi)
Assassin's Creed 3 - the only AC game I've tried (after watching cutscenes of all previous games and being excited about the series) but just found it boring gameplay-wise... maybe it gets better after the first 5 hours or so?

I've tried it many times on several different platforms and can never get into it. I understand why people love it and can acknowledge that it is a good game but it never did anything for me. I hated escorting Ashley and the gameplay I just never found fun. Capcom trying to do a hybrid between old RE tank controls and third-person shooter controls never sat well with me. It just felt too clunky and just frustrating.

No, the game remains boring all the way through. AC3 is probably the worst game in the series. Even with all its technical problems, Unity was miles better. If you're up for trying other games in the franchise I'd suggest Black Flag, Syndicate, or Odyssey.

Have you tried The Evil WIthin?
I loved RE 4 and TEW is by the same guy, but better in every way.

Grand Tourismo series - I appreciate the graphics, but it's just not fun.
Grand Theft Auto series - This game is like Just Cause, it's for doing crazy stuff which gets boring quickly. None of the story lines have held my attention and it's just too much to do.
Just Cause series - same as Grand Theft Auto - it's fun for 10 minutes, but gets boring after that.

Any online multiplayer only FPS game. This includes ones with short shitty single player. BF, COD, Fortnite, etc. I give a pass to TF, it was fun for its time.

GTA - the very first one was fun and original, after that it was just repetitive and boring.
AC - another where the first was original and kind of fun, after that it was also just repetitive and boring.
RE - you kill zombies, the end. Boring.
MMOs - most have the same boring repetitive quests just to level up. Then hours of raids just for a chance to get that one piece of armor...so you can do more hours of the same raids....
Minecraft - Innovative and I guess fun for some people, but it just is a time dump for me. So much searching around for the right minerals to make the right things, to make more right things to do more things....and things...and things... So much repetitive stuff again. At least they built in methods for making some of those tasks easier, but it just isn't my thing.
FF - Again, this is a case where the earlier versions were good, but later iterations were just boring in comparison. The formula seemed to get old even though the formula was built on the fact that it should never get old...
Pokemon - It is stupid, the end.
Sims - If your life sucks, make it better, don't try to sim it.

Tried PUBG and like-games but never got into it. Not really into the whole FPS multi-person shooter thing i guess. I do like the Sims mainly cause i enjoy building lots, houses and the occasional Sims to share. As for MMO's, i still play SWTOR, STO, and Conan Unchained fairly regular and GW2 off and on. (Have all max level characters atm on GW2 and there's really not a huge endgame so not on it as much)
I do like the Witcher series, but only in spurts when i feel like it.
Had to reload a lot of my games when i rebuilt my computer since some idiot (Myself) forgot that i had most of my games (And saves) on the one drive i formatted for the the OS system. lol :depressed: So get to replay most again to get where i was......

    1) Counter Strike

    2) Anything Warcraft

    3) Anything Starcraft

    4) Enemy Territories: Quake Wars (got so much acclaim and so much hype, remember megatextures?, when I thought everything about it was mediocre at best)

    5) Anything Fallout

Not expecting anyone to agree with me here. I don't necessarily hate any of these, but I just don't personally understand the phenomena that surrounded any of them.

Some decent lists in here. Most of them I get. So, I'll say probably a lot of the same that others have already said.

Fallout 3+ - I think I would object a lot less if they would've renamed it (and of course taken away the FO aesthetic). Because all the Bethesda games aren't really Fallout Games.

GTA Series (all) - They started the sandbox craze. But I never enjoyed sandbox games. Not from the beginning and not any modern one either. "But you can do anything" has more or less relegated all of these titles to "but you can't do anything meaningful".

    Assassins Creed - Blergh

Splinter Cell & Hitman series - Although made by different companies and very different franchises all they end up doing for a player like me is becoming games in which you more or less save and reload every few minutes. The fluidity is gone and... it's just not fun. These games only become "cool" after you've memorized everything and can therefore do it fluidly. That's not fun to me.

COD/Battlefield - All these iterative buy them every year games are generally just horrid.

I tend to agree with this list.

Actually, I agree with a lot of it. I don't care for Warcraft, Counter Strike, Quake Wars, or Fallout. I'm not saying they are horrible games, but I either didn't like them from the start or got tired of them. I played a lot of CS when it was a mod for Half Life. When it went retail, I had become burnt out on it. I felt like other shooters did things better in the sense I was far more entertained by those other games than CS.

enemy territories quake wars had so much potential but sadly the developers completely screwed the pooch.. i still had something like 200 hours played in that game though. agree with the rest of the list as well, never understood the hype for starcraft, didn't like the original and didn't like the remake either. always preferred total annihilation because you could play the micromanage rush style of starcraft but you weren't limited to just that one play style.

Don't tell me you have seriously bought a Battlefield game for the single player portion.

Most of them yes, I never bought a Battlefield or COD game for multiplayer, don't think I ever played a COD match, did some battlefield online, but not a lot. I'm generally not into PVP games as they tend to get toxic fast.

Beein playing wow for 14 years and the amount of hours I did pvp you can count on the fingers of both hands, and that was just to get some gear for transmog.

I've grown. Somewhere along the way I've stopped caring what's popular and why. Can't think of a single game that I hate. Can't think of a single 2018 game I've played this year. Unless we count PUBG.
