Hey guys, i have a tech question for everyone.

i have a client that has a geforce 5800 Ultra or somthing like that.. i know it has 2 outputs on the back. He wants 3 screens because his business would run smoother if he had 3. How would i go about getting 3 screens setup for him?

KVM switch in reverse Kind of thing? Other than that, tell him to buy a cheap PCI video card and run an analog display for like processing orders on.

Just add another PCI vid card to the system, or get a Matrox triplehead video card. Windows can run 10-16 displays (depending on the version).

Yup.

Just get a pci card. The drivers do the rest.

Unless you need 3D on all the screens, just get a cheap NVidia card. Forceware handles 2 NV cards quite well. I've got a 21" and 2 19" monitors on a 5900 and a GF2MX200. The only problem I have is I seem to always have to install drivers twice to get all the driver files at the same version. I just check w/ RivaTuner to make sure they're all at the same version after an update.
I've also mixed Matrox and NV (Parhelia + GF2MX) A Parhelia alone is really annoying for 3 screens on the desktop since you're stuck in streached mode w/ a max res of 1280x1024, so I tossed in a cheap PCI card & a KVM switch so I could move the 3rd monitor between the Parhelia for surround gaming and the GF2MX for independant res on the desktop. 2 cards of different brands works ok, but it's a bit messy and I really wouldn't want to mix ATI and NV, unless maybe the ATI card can use the driver that comes w/ Windows.

Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it. Ill head off to newegg now and search for a PCI card

Ok i just looked and now i have another question. This isnt going to happen but just for my knowlage id like to know.
Ok so i have the current video card with 2 monitors
so if i had 3 PCI slots free. If i filled all 3 PCI slots with lets say the Geforce4 MX440 (that has 2 video connecters) then i could 'easily' run 11 monitors from my computer and have one huge ass desktop ?

That should work. It'll be a pain to keep track of 'em all though. You might want to stick post-it notes on the mointors since once in a while you'll have to turn 'em all off to play a game. 3 I can remember, but 11 would just mix me up.
Another thing you could look at it Matrox MMS cards. They'll do 4 screens per card and unlike most 2-head cards, the 2nd display isn't "crippled". The biggest annoyance is usually no video overlay on the 2nd head.

I remember awhile back Kyle posted a picture or somthing of someone hooking 9 LCD monitors up in a 3x3 grid on the wall.. and they had www.hardocp.com on it.

Does anyone remmber this? does anyone know how i can find this.. I searched "Monitor" and "Multiple Monitor" but i couldnt find it.

thanks
