90 dual 1.13p3s? for a scant $47900 (will anyone else bid? :D ) that makes each system $533 + shipping. for a nice rack mount 1u server. for folding though, $250 per ghz is awful steep.

Yep, the fact that all of those come with somewhat expensive HDD systems kills it for me. I guess you could sell those back on Ebay...
 
I tried to post a thoughtful suggestion of how to get more boxen.
For them being 1ghz or lower, I wouldn't mind folding with them, but at the price they are selling them, that is out of the question.

I do have a question that I need to throw out here about a boxen I own. I have gotten recently some hp branded memory about 1gb worth of pc100 registered memory. My server is an intel quad server, it takes pc100 registered memory, will this cause problems with my system with the hp branded memory.

I know this might seem as a stupid question, but I might as well ask it.

cas2 DOES NOT EQUAL cas3

... make sure you put in fast enough ram (you server may take cas3.. which is slower, and then cas2 will work also.. but cas3 in a cas2 only mb won't play nice.)

congrats. make sure you load it right :D (big sticks first or last depending.. if it freaks out one way, put them in the other).

Thanks for the help, my memory config is strange, I have to have four sticks of memory in this machine just to get it to run. My motherboard also allows for cas2 and cas3 memory.

I am only putting in 1gb just to get it running, later I am pushing it past the 3gb limit on most standard computers.
 
By golly, I didn't know you could overclock a slot 2 pentium 3 xeon processor?

If you find out that you can overclock that, please let me know. I will try to overclock my dual pentium 3 xeon 700mhz 2mb processors.

There is this site, which I dealt with sometime ago that did sell pallets of servers and whole computers. Located in Columbus, OH on outerbelt loop street the place is Techrenew.

Try giving them a call to see if they still sell pallets of computers.
 
forgive my ignorance but how well would a dually PENTIUM III 667 XEON actually fold? and how rare are the mobo's for these chips? If i know they would give a decent run i would consider picking up a five pack.

I have a pentium 3 xeon dual 500mhz set at timeless units for folding. They fold slow, but they sure will give many points, maybe not enough work units.

To fold with those processors, you will have to find a dual slot 2 mb, that supports 133fsb, these are tricky to find, but you can find them.

Not much but they are in great shape and will run. I own one of these, I however didn't have to pay that shipping, when I live in Cincinnati and went for pickup. They might not look like much, but they will give you work units and points.

Need to pay sales tax for local pickup per a question asked my a bidder.

For the record, has anyone confirmed the net booting ability of these? (I'm 99% sure thay do)

FSB of the box would be a plus to know.

Max CPU would be a plus to know.

Pulling the hard drives and reselling them to recoupe some expense would be a idea. We don't need no stinking hard drive!

Depending on the price of shipping them would determine how many I could take on of them. I don't think I could do much more than 2 on a military paycheck.
