Now that's certainly different. I find it kind of surprising that it's a state surplus auction on Ebay. I kind of wish they did that here in Indiana, as they end up auctioning off our palletes of surplus equipment to schools super cheap at private auction, and then it goes public only after everyone else has had their toss through the pile.

 
they have been doing it alot more, there have been a few cali ones in the past too.

the best one i have seen so far was 128 p3's (with monitors and everything) cept it

It's tough. Complete boxen are nice, but the price can get up there and shipping is a killer. Taking your time and just buying the parts could save money, just need to spend the time looking and make sure it will all fix together.

I can get 18 P3 550 (?) complete IBM desktops for $50.00 a shot out of Iowa.

Wholesale price on P3's is still up there, ~$55.00 wholesale is around the price.

shit. its ~50$ ups for 4 of them (36$ for just the one) and he is charging 20$ for s/h fee

but. figure 20~ for the 4 (if it doesnt bid up too high) 50 shipping.. 20 s/h 90 total for 2400mhz..

I have a paycheck soming this friday, REALLY need to get my GF's mom's computer (kinda) up to date, Need to get my truck repaired (tune up, door falling off, power steering fixed,) need to save moneys for other things and here I am dreaming boxen I can build with a few dollars here, a few dollars there on ebay.

BTW, I added Yugo to my sig so you can see WHY gf's mom's machine needs to be upgraded. Looking to spend about 80 bucks for an FIC 503+ and K6-3+ to upgrade it. It should be able to fold then.

Actually I just got a 133 freebie. It's works, 98 is loaded. I tried doing the critical updates for it, but I think I would be 100 before they were done installing.

Good thing I gt a dumpster. Almost nothing is really usable in the system....
 
You know... just for shits and giggles, I am going to run the console on it to see just how long it takes to turn in a WU.

I'll prolly have to turn it off to install the new parts before it's done with one. Can it fold w/ 16 megs of ram???? :confused:

Thing is, with Win98se, it's decently responsive... nothing really installed on it of course.
 
16 megs, ouch. I think a timeless is 5 megs of ram, maybe not if anything it would be less.

Good thing for a swap file!

COAST = or "Cache On A STick." And this MB is older than that, or i'd take you up on the offer.. :( It does habe cache tho, the old DIP chips you have to plug into the the board, one chip at a time. Luckily, it's full of those.

Sheesh, I am a geek, I can spout off circa '95 technology with ease.

mm micro should fit in there fine... i set up an old at case with a standard atx... cept it
was rotated 90 degrees.. all the mb i/o was facing up. had to custom drill some holes to mount it etc. but it worked.

but seriously. for a few dollars more you can get something 1990's ish

Actually it's fulls of SCSI drives/96 meg EDO I think.

The Alpha is the only really cool part. Something different.
 
ok, I gotta stop... First thing that when through my mind was installing Linux and running Quake 3 on it. True story, When Q3A forst came out, I got it running ONCE on this system...

Cyrix 6x86-pr133, 96m edo-ram, trident 8900 w/ Scitech Display doctor handling the OpenGL calls, @ 640-480. Timedemo'd @ .2 FPS. I went in-game and sarge cried in the corner at .7 FPS. It was beautiful and horrible at the same time.

ALWAYS check the people shipping prices..

ive seen some stupid stuff, like .01 cent NR sales..

Marty you serious about ditching that? If so can you email me a couple pic's? I might........ outside chance here but might be able to use it to fix an alpha I have here. Depending on model that 300mhz is.
