Ok, all this NV40 and R420 card talk has given me the desire for more performance in my games. It doesn't help that I am addicted to Far Cry and I can't wait for Doom III either. So heres the deal.

I have a Built By ATi Radeon 9600Pro that I have had for some time now. My system is pretty powerfull but this card holds me back. I am waiting until NV40 or R420 hits the shelves before I buy another card.

Thing is I have had issues overclocking this card. See sig for my results. I can't go any higher than that without producing artifacts in my games. Any tips on getting more out of the 9600Pro to tide me over until the next gen cards arrive? Are there any softmods or hardware mods that I can do to the card to help out in this area?

Thanks in advance.

that's fresh. cooling will help alot. sometimes overclocking cards doesnt make a visible diference though.

a little off topic, but i noticed that you have your cars mentioned in your sig...does the T/A have the banshee front end [or did that come along later?]

back on topic...uhhh, use a zalman heatpipe, a buddy of mine has one, they work nicely.

Well I hang on the car forum alot so that's why the cars are in the sig. As for the 9600Pro I've had bad luck OC'ing it. I get artifacts over pretty much anything. I am trying to get more out of it for little cash while I wait for the next gen cards to hit the streets.

I don't want to go buy another card right now. Depending on how much a good cooling solution for it would cost I may go that route.

BTW the banshee style front end did not appear on the 3rd gen TA until 1991. It lasted until 1992. After that came the fourth gens.
