aight so my case sux... and i need some new fans etc. I have a clear plastic side panel, and i was wondering if it is possible to cut holes for new fans? (i want 2 more fans on the side panel, one blowing on the proc heatsink, and one blowing on the graphix card...) the case is an ICUE case... and im considering replacing it for something bigger and nicer looking.... but im still thinking bout mods for it....
 
Basic rule of thumb: anything is possible.

Including adding blowholes to acrylic.
 
how the hell would i do this tho? i have never modded anything be4 :/
 
that does not help... i said its an acrylic/plastic side panel, and you cant draw on it with a pencil.

Cover it with masking tape. This'll also help prevent scratches during the cutting process. Plenty of people have blowholes in their acrylic windows.

Tape it up and just be careful of melting, I'm sure if you do some Google work you could find a tutorial on acrylic blowhole cutting.
 
just wondering... what kind of tools will i need? i think theres some cutting blade somewhere in this house (spinning blade, free hadn tho...) im not to sure how to use it and i dont feel like getting my balls chopped off from a spinning blade :/
 
I did this one with nothing but a dremel. (strait carbide cutting bit)

well my side panel is a bit different.... so i dunno if this would really work :/ heres a pic:

as u can see their is a really stupid handle there.. .thats does absolutely nothing :/ maybe i'll cut that off and put the fan in the middle there...
 
tape up the window, a hole saw would be best but if you have a dremil or a rotory tool, you can make a template to run against and use it as a guid, or free hand the hole if you can.

dont go too fast, and go steady, have a knife on hand to cut off the melted plexi, and gogles and a long sleved shirt are a good idea so melted plastic doesnt stick to you and burn.

You could cut out the parts shown below and make the existing blowhole wider. That would effectively extend the coverage of that window fan.

Seriously though, one suggestion I have for you. Would it be possible for you to get a plain side panel for that case? Say one without a window. Then you could mod it to however you wanted, without that stupid deisgn they put on that one. Just cut yourself a window with a few holes in it and you would be set.
 
You'd have to cut the crap going accross the center with a Dremel. For the window, though, I had some good people CnC me a couple blowholes in plexiglass, so if you can do that that would certainly be the best solution. If not, a Dremel is your friend again, but then you'll have to find a fan grill that will cover the edge. There's no fucking way (unless you're Jesus, of course) that you can make the hole perfectly round with a tool like Dremel.

Yeah, it's definately not easy, but you can get it close with a bit of patience and a steady hand. I also used sanding drums at low RPM to even out a couple spots on the one I posted above.
 
i just recently bought a cup saw... my cupsaw costed $30 but its rock-solid altho i think you can find cheaper ones... if you decide to use a cupsaw on the acrylic... go slowly and drill a pilot hole first, then reverse it so the cupsaw teeth go backwards and cuts thru the acrylic at a slower pace to avoid cracking it
 
ya get a hole saw and you can cut as many holes as you want. just take it slow when you do cut. or it will crack

I'd use a grinding stone; one of the round ones... but a sanding drum? That idea has never occured to me. I imagine, the sandpaper will get cut by the thin metal.
 
well i think im gonna get a new case... either a dragon or a matrix mx.... i think i like the matrix better tho cus its 2 tone and looks nicer...
