Is it just me or are the bad guys winning? So many common and popular web sites infected. Obscure professional web sites infected. Repeated attacks through email. It's become so bad lately that I put it in my signature. Have I just been lucky in the past or have the attacks really ramped up?

I haven't really noticed. I am usually fairly well protected on my own, and I haven't noticed anything significant with my clients ( both current and new ).

This. The sites successfully being attacked/hacked (especially where data is getting out in to the open) are operated and protected by people who have no business being employed in IT.

Do you not have any adobe products installed on any of your computers? Java? Do you not have any users who have admin privileges (locally) or need to install their own software? Do they have web browsers? Do you run any custom code at all? Sneakernet only?

How much are you spending on your active defenses, or is your firewall and A/V enough?

I promise you are vulnerable no matter the answers.

Got to agree!

Everyday there are new vulnerabilities found in just about everything, guess these days with all the social networking such as twitter you just hear about these attacks etc much more

This place seriously needs a LOL smiley.

Because we hear about company's getting hacked on Facebook/Twitter before anywhere else, right?

Please, admin, need that LOL smiley now.

I guess I didn't make it clear. I've been experiencing these problems, not just reading about them. My security procedures and software have protected me from all but one infection. Any day now you are going to read a headline like: "half of all home computers in America infected with malware."

Remember, it isn't paranoia if they really are after you!:D

As technology progresses and more new developments arise, it just allows for more opportunities to find loopholes. It is the same idea where ever you go. The longer the wall, the more cracks to be found.

I'm just roughly throwing this up from observation, hasn't that already happened? From the amount of computer illiterate idiots I've encountered, I gotta say they all have some kind of malware on their computer. A co-worker came up to me and said, the computer is only for porn and facebook but the reality was, he was serious. This coming from an office where majority are making $80k+ a year yet some of the people cannot operate the computer beyond what was just said.

The past month I've been learning about the Java & Flash updates through the UTM alerts.
