Now with all the 5970 reviews hitting the net alot has come to light with new crap we can use to push our 5870's and 5850's to the max. Specifically the ATI volt mod tool and new super performance drivers. Memory on the 5800's can now get extra juice, and maybe hitting 1300+ mhz stable is within reach;

Does anyone know what the specs(latencies, spec'ed mhz, and brand) are on the memory of the 5870's and 5850's? Are they the same mem as the 5970? I'm sure we'll see this volt mod tool hit the net soon, and I just am wondering how far the mem on my 5850 can be pushed.

Another interesting thing is this review and the drivers they used, was pointed out on another thread here;

They are using CAT 9.6 drivers and getting nearly 2x performance?? WTF??

I'm not sure that the 5970 tool will work with the 5870 because the 5970 has programmable volterra controllers. Does the 5870 feature the same? Overvolting the core memory of the 5870 seems a snap but I'm not sure if the same would hold true of the memory.

Looks like you may be right. XFX has an overvolt tool included with the black edition 5970, and sapphire has an overvolt tool as well for download on their drivers page, but they say it only works with the Sapphire 5970.

...maybe no memory overvolting love for the 5800's after all...

Asus has adjustable vcore in it's SmartDoctor utility for the 5870, but no v mem adjustments.

People in the forums have reported very very little gain after 1300MHz on the 5870's. Actually I believe they found a negative impact when going past 1350MHz. The real gains are with the core O/C.
