I was hoping to hear you guys opinion on the UTTER CRIPPLING FEAR caused by this game. I love scary games/movies, and this one delivers like no other. This game demands more attention!

I was hoping to hear about them making a sequel but then again the first game is scarey enough that I haven't finished it yet.

It is definitely a good game, and I'm glad the dev is helping to keep the horror adventure game alive. :) Nice to play a scary game that doesn't also involve blasting things to bits.

Did you guys follow the directions when you first start it up? I did. I even wore ear protectors over earbuds as sort of a poor mans noise cancelling headphones, and played in the dark like they ask. Not being able to save and being completely vulnerable really makes you uncomfortable huh?

Just curious, how would you guys compare the scary level of this game to FEAR. I'm really interested in it, but it might just be too much for me. I could get through most of STALKER in the dark with a headset, though that first controller encounter and some of those labs pushed it for me. I'm over halfway through the first FEAR but cant get myself to finish it, even during the day. The part where you drop into a tunnel, turn your flashlight on, start moving and all lights go out, and then they flash on and you see Alma crawling towards you and they go off again...that mental image was ingrained in my head for like a week and it scared the shit outta me.

But I want to play this game!

I have had to quit this damn game from pure dread. No game has ever made me so scared to go around a corner. Sometimes I only play for a few minutes.

This game has done quite an amazing job at scaring the crap out of me! What scared me the most though, was that I never knew what to expect. Most "scary" games (or even movies) I can guess what is about to happen, therefore, dampening the scary factor.

Except for a few parts, amnesia was very random (in my opinion) in where the creatures would show up. Even worse is the music/sounds when it comes!

The scariest moment I had in the game was somewhere near the end. It was a GIANT fog covered room and the music for the creature came on. I couldn't locate it though, but the sounds kept coming more harshly until I finally saw it right in front of my face. The worst part was that I was in the middle of the room and had no idea where the exit was.. I ran like hell! I couldn't play the damn game for a week after that.

The only other game that has recently startled me was Dead Space 1. The sounds in that game were what got me the most. Music at random times (not only when something is near) and just the atmosphere.

I was thinking of giving this game a try, but now I'm actually kind of scared...

Don't forget about the 'expansion' Amnesia: Justine. It's equal parts all screwed up as Dark Descent if not more so because there are times where the monsters don't de-spawn and patrol around looking for you the entire time!

It was so scary I did not complete it. :)

is the justine thing a reference to the marquis de sade story?

I've got this installed, but I've never had the nerve to fire it up. After reading how pants-pissing scary it's supposed to be, I just don't need that kind of stress.

Great to see that this game still has traction. I've been meaning to buy it, since I absolutely loved the Penumbra series, but I have such a huge backlog of games right now I can't justify purchasing it.

This game is seriously intense. Play this game like the developers wanted you to play it. It will put you on the edge of your seat and will have to pause it and or quit playing after about 30 minute sessions.

I'll definitely be playing Amnesia during October; which is when I try to play my scariest games. I also have Cryostasis to play though, which is supposed to be pretty scary. And I still haven't played Metro 2033, yet. Hmm.

This game is full of win. Even if you don't get around to playing it, buy it! It's dirt cheap and it's good to support great independent game developers like these guys. Who knows what they got coming next if they had some cash to work with.

This game is a masterpiece. Is it perfect? No. But what it does and what it brings to the table it does exceptionally well and it's cheap, to boot. Everyone owes it to themselves to try it.

Exactly. I really liked the game for the hour or two that I played it. But I haven't felt like returning and finishing it. Not because I didn't like it (I liked it a lot actually), but because it's scary and I don't know if I want to be scared when I play video games.

Kind of an interesting thing actually. They did a really good job imo of making a scary game, but I don't know if I'd feel compelled to buy sequels, knowing that I'd be too scared to actually play them.

I tried the demo. I guess the parts that got me on edge was when you were being followed.

I keep telling myself that it shouldn't be scary but I worry so much about monsters and where I'm going to run and if I get cornered and the music gets so tense when a monster is around that it makes it difficult for me to play without getting all tensed up.

I don't use headphones; I've played with 7.1 sound for a long time and tried using stereo and you don't have a good sense of where sounds are coming from with just 2 channels so I'm highly against that. My speakers and sub are big and loud enough that a bang on a door in the game sounds like a bang on the door in the room.

What makes Amnesia scary is that you cannot defend yourself. You don't have weapons so you have to be prepared to either run to the next room that invokes a load screen or find a place to hide until the monster forgets about you. If there were weapons in Amnesia then I wouldn't be hesitant, at all, to just run head on into areas killing stuff.

yeah, turning a corner or opening a door in this game gets my stomach in knots
