Ok well I posted about a week ago with some 8800gts problems following an RMA for a bad card.

Well it seems as though something else on my system is causing problems, but I would like your input. I was heading home for a few days so I finally shut my computer down. it had been running fine for several days. no screen corruption, etc etc. a little over 8 hours later i started it back up now knowing I could not make it home and I get screen corruption just like before..even in the bios.. here is what it looks like..

the fact that it is in the bios makes me think it has nothign to do with the card. the fact that it has been working for nearly a week with power left on besides obvious restarts makes me confused

any ideas or help is appreciated.
 
Is your Bios updated , or has it ever been flashed just curiouse. Does Your PSU have the reqiured AMPS on the 12v rails? 28Amps or more is Reqiured if i remember right..and is your Video Card FULLY seated...

I would Shut down Pc and Pull the card look at the Gold Finger circiuts make shure they look good and make shure the Card seats firm in your PciE slot not Loose ...If it is fairly loose it could cause wierd things like your Bios lines from having loose contact!... Ive seen this happen where when a Card is cold in the slot it is slighly loose but after system warms and the Board PciE slot expands or loosens it would further more cause one or several bad contacts causing a problem.Yes that is rare!

I like to check everything before i eventhink of a Rma.. Who knows ,Ive Had bad PciE slot on motherboard before with same symtom but it wouldnt boot windows after post either!

video corruption in bios usually means hardware problem.. videocards a toasty pastry as already stated :(
 
how is it toast? things are working fine now.. an hour of bf2 and close to that in fs9 since I have posted.

My PSU is a OCZ 600w 4 12v rails @ 18 amps - so that is enouh :p

I don't think it is the video card as it is obviously working. memtest shows no errors, and i have doen no overclocking.

the only things i have not done is phsyically test the output of the PSU as I do not know how to do that and the guy @ OCZ said the screen corruption would not be a result of a bad PSU. Also I am unsure of how to test my MOBO besides swapping it out.
 
hmm ....interesting

so no lines in windows .. are the lines static in bios , or do they move across the screen?
 
the lines were static in bios and in windows (when it completed boot [alot of times it actually failed to boot])

Now that it is booting I have no lines, not problems, fast fun gaming. The problems I experienced earlier today were identical to those I had when I get this RMA replacement late last week.

The previous card produced a different type of trailing screen corruption whne a window dragged across them..

If it's indeed a fixed card, then obviously it's something probably on your mobo. Is the PCI-E power plug all the way in? Video card seated correctly? I don't know... that's a funky-ass problem :confused:
 
sure is a funky ass problem.

i called OCZ twice and each time they said you would not receive that type of corruption if you the card was underpowered/unconnected. they said i would get an error saying the card is being underclocked... i believe them, to a point.

i called evga 3 or more times and each time they said it sounded like a power supply problem, go figure. two of them couldnt tell me how to go about physically testing the power output (since i have found a few good tutorials, but have yet to test them)

things seem to be point towards my mobo, an asus p5b deluxe.
 
Did it work after pulling card out and puting back In .......Just curiouse because those lines ive only seen when a card isnt fully seated or a mobo has a bad or loose PCiE slot....happened on my Msi K9n4 500 SLI board with the (Lower slot )and it would only happen when i installed Any of my 7900's in the secondary PciE slot....I could not Sli with the mobo because of it and i was then limeted to one Card!:mad: . So i 86ed the mobo,it was a freebee outa warranty and both Cards worked fine in my new board...Im NOT saying its your Mobo just check to see that the Card is fully Seated and that it is secured with the Slot Screw.....
 
i did not take it out and reseat it. my case was open so i looked to make sure it was in and it was. i firmly pressed on it to make sure it was seated and felt nothing. both screws were already in place and secured.

i did this before posting the first time ... and followed several times with bad/failed boots...
 
What's your mobo? Can you put the card in a different PCI-E slot to test? Sure it's not monitor? Have you tried plugging in a different PCI-E power cable? Look at your PSU manual and see what PCI-E cables are on what rails. Most likely the #1 PCI-E power plug is on 12v rail number one. Which is most likely shared with other devices. The 8800 likes it's very own power rail. GL man, I just sorted through some 8800 gts problems myself.
 
I had something similar happen to me and it was related to a header on my mobo that was active, but no plug in it.
In my case, it was the firewire header. I forgot to disable it, so it was active with no bracket plugged into it. Once I disabled it - bam, no more video corruption.

However it happened one more time later and it was a sign of my 7900GT biting the dust :p
