I have been needing a 30" for awhile. I need real estate. Yes I looked at 27" high res monitors but for some reason I wanted more screen as well. That's my preference.
I bought an HP zr30w from Best Buy last week. It sucked. Period. The craftsmanship was shoddy, the panel parts didn't line up with the bezel, the screen had something in front of it that was always loose, like a thin piece of plastic. When I started it and started checking for pixel failures there was one, right away, right where the URL bar is. Drove me crazy to say the least especially for the cost of that monitor. So I took it back and seriously started considering the 27", annnnnd pretty much thought I was nuts dropping 1300 on a 30" anyway. I then came across the IPS 27" from eBay a lot of people have had success with lately, and that's how I came across this cheap Monoprice 30". What the hell. I decided to go for it. Maybe it's a S. Korea knock off that Monoprice is working with? Who knows.
Just fired it up and no pixel problems. The screen is very nice and clear. The chassis and bezel are actually pretty nice. It has a more durable look to it, more archaic maybe. Screws holding things on, some metal. Not bad. The stand is kinda crappy. Cheap and sorta flimsy. It's adjustable though which I'm gonna try tonight. I think it can do uhhh that mode where you turn it? Not sure what it's called.
Anyway for those thinking of a 30" give this a try. for $750 I believe it's reasonable and Monoprice has always had a good rep with me.
I'm gonna mess with it some more, maybe do some pictures. If there's stuff you want to see let me know.
Update:
The screen seems to have a slightly cooler color as it goes from left to right. In fact I think there's a pretty good point of a transition where the left side if just a little bit warmer. This is pretty easily seen opening a white screen.
Update 2:
The screen temperature transition is pretty bad. I'm gonna have to return it. I'll try a replacement to see if it's a bad unit or a problem in general. I don't think this is "adjustable".
