I've got a Hanns-G HG281, and since I've failed to find any place that is selling them for a reasonable amount, have decided to instead buy two additional widescreen monitors to put on either side (vertically though, ala http://www.improve.dk/images/content/small/monitor_current2.jpg).

I originally researched the monitor here before I bought it, and while I remember there were threads where people did exactly what I'm trying to do, I can't seem to find them. I'm hoping someone who has done such a setup with the HG281 can point me in the right direction. I'm looking for displays that match as closely as possible to the 281's height (I have OCD, so I have to find the perfect fit).

I have the same monitor and thought the same thing to. I believe its either 2 x 17" 5:4 aspect ratio or 2 x 19" 5:4 aspect ratio 1280x1024 res monitors in portrait. I think its the 19s in portrait as the 17" in portrait would fit a 24" You can't go 16:9 WS monitors as it will be too tall. Hmm... I take this back. A 17" WS 16:9 1280x720 monitor may line up with that 28" also

The picture you see there is a Dell 30" with 2 x 20" 1600x1200 res monitors in portrait.

what size is that 16:10? 19"? That will be a bit too tall as it is 16" in height when it's in portrait mode. Can you do me a favor, can you measure the screen height of your Hanns 28" display. Then I can measure some of the monitors I have here at work.

I just measured my Viewsonics Screen width and it's 16". What is the screen height of your Hanns 28"?

20" height? That cannot be. Did you measure the height of the display screen itself? I'm not referring to the height of the entire monitor. Measure just the view screen

Personally, I'd do the 2 x 5:4 19" monitors. Why? Because of the resolution. It would matchup better with your 1920 x1200 display. If you mount the 19s in portrait, the resolution height will be 1280 and width is 1024. At least the pixel height is closer to the pixel height of the 28' monitor at 1200. It's just 80 pixels more. Not bad vs 1440 pixels on the 17" 1440x900 monitor. That's 240 pixel difference.

Having a 30" paired with 2 x 20s are perfect in height because the pixel height of a 30" is 1600 and the pixel width of a 20" 4:3 monitor is 1600 also

I have been struggling with finding a solution to this very problem for a while and I have pretty much settled on getting 19 inch 1280x1024 screens. I figure I will probably go with some older models that are better panels as that much TN panel might not be good at those angles.

Personally, I'd do the 2 x 5:4 19" monitors.

As it turns out, I've got an old 19" ViewSonic still hanging out in a closet. I yanked that out, rigged it up after a fashion to display portrait (it isn't VESA mountable...so I was ballparking a bit), and I have to say that it looks quite good.

I think I'll go the 19" route and get them shipped out next week. After they arrive and I get the whole system assembled, I'll throw up a picture or two to show how it turned out.

Yeah.. the 19's screen height in portrait will be a little taller than your 28" monitor display screen height. But, it's pretty close.
