Monitors for Portrait mode

Are there any recommendations for monitors that would be good for use in portrait mode? I'm thinking IPS or VA would be the best choice for this, since TNs would show color shifting when being viewed in portrait.
The U2312HM or U2412M were the first two I found, both with great stands that allow plenty of adjustment, including portrait mode, but the things I've read about the anti-glare coat slightly scare me off from them.
There's also the S24A650D, which is a MVA monitor. I just found it today actually, but it looks pretty nice, and I believe it uses Samsung's UltraClear coating, which would reduce glare but still give the nice image of a glossy screen. (If anyone wants to correct me on this or confirm it, that'd be great). I also can get it for just under $300, which seems like a pretty good deal. Much cheaper than the U2412M.
There's also the HP ZR2440w, which is a little more expensive then the others. I'm not sure what kind of AG coating it has either.

Other than these, I haven't found many monitors with stands that support portrait mode rotation. I guess my other option would be to just get a VESA mountable monitor and a mount. Right now I'm probably most interested in the S24A650D, since I've had a good history with Samsungs, though I need to do more research on it.
Any other opinions? :D

You're in the right boat here, but you should be somewhat careful about using 1080 monitors in portrait. I use two myself, but there are definite limitations with web browsing etc. -- most websites these days are 960-1000px wide; you can easily have horizontal scrolling, which is annoying. If you are going to use the portrait monitors for text/coding 1080 works fine. The Samsung S24A650D is 1080 despite being 24".

You definitely do not want a TN monitor. Viewing angles are important.

You should be looking at one of two options: one of the 24" 1920x1200 (Dell/HP) or a refurbished 20" 1600x1200. The Dell 2007FP & one of the HPs are the most highly regarded.

The 20' monitors are probably the best size and proportion for portrait, but are too expensive for what you get new.

I definitely like the U2412M with its 16:10 aspect ratio. The AG coating is really the only thing holding me back from it.
That, and the fact that for about the same price as it I can get the S24A650D. Would 1080 be fine for PDFs, ebooks, etc?

As far as AG coating goes, nearly every monitor with an IPS panel made by LG uses the same AG coating. The differences perceived in AG coating between different monitors can be attributed to two factors: Brightness and Pixel Density. Brightness is a factor that can be easily controlled on any monitor, so the only thing that should concern you is the pixel density. As far as IPS goes, I have owned a U2211H and a ZR2740w, I can say that the AG on the latter is a bit more noticeable than the former, due to its higher pixel density. In any case, a 24" 1920 x 1200 monitor like the U2412M should have less noticeable AG than either of the two monitors that I mentioned due to being less pixel dense. Of course, while it is noticeable, I didn't find the AG coating to be a deal breaker even for the ZR2740w. However, it might be a good idea to see it in person before you make a decision if possible, as you can't get a really good idea of what effect the coating has from pictures alone.

Hope that helps.

NEC has several displays that go into portrait mode, including all of our professional series. If budget is a concern, though, you might check out the EA232WMi. 16:9, 23" IPS panel.

Fun fact: AG coating has been around for as long as there were LCD monitors, yet it has only recently been made a fuss about by a some here at the display forum - which has since spread to countless yawn-inducing discussions about it's "aggressiveness."

Yes, I realize that, it just seems odd that more people complain about the AG on the new Dells, when monitors have been using AG for so long. Also, I can't deny that glossy/semi-glossy monitors, when used in the right conditions that don't produce glare can look clearer than ones with AG.

Right now I'm trying to get a used 2408wfp/2407wfp for fairly cheap off ebay. If that fails, I may go ahead and get the 2412m, though I'll definitely take a look at the U2711 at MicroCenter and see if the AG on that bothers me, since I believe it uses similar AG. I suppose I can always return or sell it if it ends up bothering me too much in daily usage.

Had a U2411 for a year now and have no problem with the AG coating. If you go looking for problems you will find it.

If you're interested in 27" the Samsung S27A850D PLS, 2560x1440 screen can do Portrait and it's ~$850.
