//begin TL;DR
Oh dear. I started looking for a monitor to replace my 17" Envision 7410. It's certainly about time.
Everything was fine, I was about to buy a decent $150 22" from Newegg. Then I remembered the motto my father lives by: "Get exactly what you want, or get something 1/10th the price." It's a good motto because it makes you define exactly what you want.
And now I've run into you guys, and I'm hopelessly lost. I've been going over the forums, and everyone has an opinion, to which everyone else contradicts. It seems like a lot of people get Dell monitors w/o thinking about it, get on the forum and say it works for them. The replies consist of extremely detailed graphs of why they just got robbed. That was bad enough.

But then... The TN debate. I didn't even know there were different types of monitors. Sure, I noticed my Macbook has a CRAP viewing angle, but would that for sure translate into the thing I was considering buying? I wouldn't want to replace my Envision with something I could barely see. Can I even tell the difference in viewing angle? What about color depth? Oh dear.

End TL;DR//

SO, I'm coming to you lot with a complicated question.
Please maximize this equation:
24"+
1900x1200+
~$300. <$400

Uses: Home desktop, mainly used for gaming, essay writing, and HD Hulu. I've never had a really large monitor before, but I'll try watching DVDs on it too.
My computer's got a Nvidia 7950GT, so no HDMI as of yet, but I'd like something that can last, and that probably means HDMI.
Ultimately within those specs, I'd like to maximize picture quality (duh). If there are any non TN screens within those constraints that rock out, I'd love to see them.

Opinion is fine, but reviews are better, and links to deals are amazing.

Thanks!
P.S.
I'll follow up and post a review of the final product.

Based on this, and your budget, I'd have to say a TN panel is the way to go. Non TN panels are really more for professional graphics artists that require a high color accuration. While TN panels are great for games and movies and are quite cheaper as well.

Best 24" screens money can buy:
