Monitor Upgrade - Need Help

I hope I am posting this in the correct section. If not feel free to move admin.

I am currently working on a 24" single monitor. I would like to upgrade my display to do eyefinity setup. I have done quite a bit of research and have seen many awesome displays on this forum. But I need help with picking the best monitors for my uses.

I mainly use my PC for the following:
Photography
Internet Browsing
Gaming

Along with my monitor upgrade I am going to upgrade my power source and video card as well. I know from personal experience LED monitors are much better visually and last longer than LCD, but I have also heard this may not be the best choice for my uses.

What I would like to have is 5x1 Portrait setup. Ideally I would like to do this with 5 27" monitors, but I have not been able to find any monitors that size that are portrait capable. Any suggestions for monitors would be greatly appreciated.

whats your budget? & what Motherboard & video cards are you using.
 
My budget $2-3K. So I am thinking from the research I have done I may be better off just doing a new build because the build I have now is just a plane jane custom build off new egg. The mother board has on-board video.

Mainly I am interested if finiding out from people that have eyefinity setups and have done a similar 5 monitor portrait setup. It seems I may need more than 1 vid card to handle gameplay and the larger resolution?

Going jsut about have to be 5x 27" monitors with stands that will probably run 400ish each so your at 2000 right there & then an eyefinity 6 5870 so thats another 380.. At that point that only leaves a budget of 620 for the rest of the system & with what he has already a complete overhaul isnt going to get much I dont think.
 
What percentage of your time is spent on photo editing and gaming?

If you plan on buying multiple monitors plus a video card (or two) and a power supply for under $2000, you may have to make some compromises somewhere.
 
photo editing about 20%
gaming about 50%
Internet browsing about 30%

The main reason I want to do an upgrade is for racing and flight simulators. I also do a fair share of shooting games as well.

I actually have a friend that is going to help me put the PC together.

The main thing i wanted to find out from this group was about the monitors. Im thinking of doing either 3 Asus 27" LED's landscape or 5 portrait. Would one vid card handle eyefinity in both aspects?
 
we like to have all the info before recommending things...

but anyhow, which model Asus monitors were you looking at?
 
reviews are alright, but hey im running an ASUS and you cant go wrong with that:)
