monitor shaking?

Hey guys. I moved into a new apt, and now inside my new bedroom, my monitor keeps shaking. I connected the laptop to the monitor with a monitor cable, and the monitor stopped shaking. Could it really be the videocard that is doing that?

What usually causes a monitor to shake the picture? Lack of PSU power?
 
This is usually caused by either dirty power, or the monitor cable picking up some rfi/emi interference.

Make sure the monitor's power and signal cables are away from each other, and away from other cables.


If that doesnt help, your laptop may have some power filtering built into it that is helping keep its image steady.
 
also make sure you dont have speakers to close .. or cell phone or telephone laying near

i used to lay my old cellphone near my monitor at work and it had a shimmer every couple minutes :D drove me insane untill i figured out what it was
 
make sure you put the monitor on a solid flat surface that's firmly planted on the floor.
 
I had a version of this problem, but it was becuase my DDC didnt work in ati control panel, i had to go in and manually set all the NEC Multiysnc 97f settings by hand in Display tab, Proubally not your problem but My screen had this werid shaky effect too untill i did this so just thought i throw it out there.

Question for everyone else, why would my DDC supported monitor not be working in ati's control panel. I have and hp monitor and it works just fine, just not my NEC
 
Probably interference as already mentioned... make sure your monitor cable isn't going over your power cable or something similar, might be hitting alot of interference on the way down to your computer.



My monitor shakes whenever my cell phone is next to my computer and i receive a text message.... doesn't do it when i get a phone call, just text messages. :confused: weird stuff.
 
CRTs are prone to picking up interference.


What is most likely the problem is EM interference from AC power. Do you have any appliances nearby with a electric motor? such as a fan, refrig., A/C unit, etc...

Its also possible that you may be close to the area in one of your walls where power lines converge and run between floors or into the next room.

I had a similar problem in that my desk was near the spot in the wall where all the circuits from the 2nd floor run down through the 1st floor into the basement. If ANY monitor or TV was within 10 feet of this spot, the picture would shake badly.

Also had a problem with a in-window fan, it caused my TV picture to shake on the left side. Turning the fan off fixes the problem :)
