I just ordered a new system and wondering about monitor setup. I'm currently running one 20" LCD, which I like, but have been thinking about a dual setup with two 19 inchers.

Pros - Cons? Is more really merrier? My video card has two DVI outs.

Thanks!!!!

(System is mostly used for video/photo/web design/editing).

I run dual 19" L90D+'s, and its amazing. Before this I ran dual 17" CRT, and before that single 17" crt. Personally I love having the advantage of dual monitors, you have a backup screen always on-top if one fails which is always nice, and twice the desktop space is just awsome for multi-tasking. I do a lot of programming/paper writing for school and so having design documentations/guidelines/research on one panel and the work on the other is a real biggie for me, whenever I do one video editing/photo editing/similar multimedia work I only ever use one screen for that, but any IM's/winamp/etc goes no the other screen and so I don't have to alt-tab out to see what somebody said to me. Once you go dual you can never go back.

Dual screens is nice, but for games a single, nice monitor is best. I run dual monitors: Dell 2005, NEC FP955 (crt). The crt is better for low res games like quake3 which are typically run at 640X480 because that's just what quake players do :). But for any other game the 2005 takes the cake for enjoyment.

I think the real question and debate now and days is Dual LCD's or 1 big Widescreen LCD.

Thats what I am havinig trouble deciding on.

I think that dual 19s would be sweet! but if you already have a 20 inch LCD, I wouldnt just drop it... i would get another 20 inch in addition to the one you already have :)

Dual 21" CRT's work nicely to if you have the desk space

I still havent run into an LCD with better color representation than my medical grade sony CRT's

I could never use a CRT again. In fact its been so long since I have seen one.... Hell I even have Plasma TV's now... sigh... Thin is so good.

I should've mentioned the 20" is at work. The dual or single LCD setup will replace a good, but aging 19" CRT at home. I love the CRT image, but thin is in and my LCD is easy on the eyes (and I'll still have the CRT around for testing). I'd love to have two twenties though, but that's too much $$$.

I'm still on dual 17" CRT's, awesome monitors but I'm looking to move to LCD over the summer. My plan was to go with one 21" widescreen and then a second 19".

Probably will get that dell once it drops to $350 and still use one of my CRT's as the second until I can spring for a second LCD. Any pros or cons to two widescreens if there is say a stellar deal? :)

And yeah, once you go dual, you'll never go back.

Two wide screens seem a little, um, wide, but if you have the space for it, go for it. I don't think I'd have two, only because I need at least one monitor 4:3 for editing for that format, but a 16:9, would be nice as well for doing wide-screen work. Mmmm...one wide-screen and one standard 19 or 20' might be cool setup.

I have both dual 20.1 and 1 23" Widescreen. For work, programming, photoshop, webdesign, etc 2 monitors rule. For gaming 1 23/24" monitors wins all....Just depends on your needs. Since you said it was for work, dual 19" would be better...
