Monitor Recommendation

Hi all,

I've been through quite a few monitors in my time and I've never really setled to like any of them. I'm in the market for a new one after selling my Samsung 2443BW to a friend.

I'm looking for a monitor that has a resolution of 1920 X 1200 and isn't a TN panel. However, I would properly settle for a monitor which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 if necessary. I'm looking to spend around about £200 - £250 but could properly push up into the £300 mark if necessary. I'd mostly be using the monitor for programming, general office work and movie watching along with the odd bit of gaming now and then.

No non-TN 1200p monitors fall within your budget.

Dell U2311H Review is the best 23" IPS panel you can afford. It is possible the new Asus ML239H (same panel but LED backlit) won't use the aggressive AG coating, so if you like the coating/text on the Samsung (IPS panels are granier) you might want to try the Asus.

Be prepared to play the RMA game due to tinting issues, if you can get the Asus from a local shop with a good return policy that would be prime

You can find the HP ZR24W and Dell U2410 for under £300. The ZR24W being closer to £250 from the right places. Both being 1920x1200 and non-TN.

(Actually the Dells at that price seem to be Dell refurbs.. so probably have a look at the ZR24W then..)

Thanks for the reply.

I have been looking at the U2311H for quite sometime, however I really want to stick a monitor with a 1920 x 1200 resolution. How much would I have to fork out for one?

Whatever happened to all the 1920 x 1200 24inch monitors? I can hardly find any!

Did you look into the ZR24W as I suggested?

I did but it seems to have poor blacks and contrast.

Also a lot of people seem to report that it has a lot of AG coating which gives eye strain to the user.

Been looking at pushing my budget to get a Dell U2410, however that seems to suffer from backlight bleeding and all sorts. You just can't win!

Take a look at the Asus PA246Q then if you're sensitive to the AG coating. It's supposed to be like the U2410 but with less AG.

Also, keep in mind a lot of people here are very nitpicky about small niggles, and you may find more people complaining about their imperfect screen in threads for a monitor than those singing the virtues of how wonderful it is. You'll probably see lots of people with the ZR24W or U2410 in the setups sticky, who are happy enough with their choice..

This is true, and I don't know how sensitive I would be to AG coating.

I used own a Dell 2408WFP about two years, how bad was the AG coating on that post to be? I really liked that monitor from a colour point of view, however the amount of input lag it had was ridiculously.
