Hey guys,

I'm in the market for two new monitors that are in between the 22" to 24" range as that is where most of the best stuff lies at the moment ... and my budget won't extend to buying a 30" at the moment even though I'd love one :(

I do occasional gaming but most of the time do web browsing and a lot of document work + VMs so am going back to a dual monitor setup since my DGM 24" is annoying me.

Probably looking to be no more than $200 per monitor and must be VESA mountable as I'm going to buying a dual monitor arm, also another reason why the screen size is limited.

Main quality that I'm looking for is DPI as I'm used to working on screens with small text, hence my eyesight is naturally adjusted for it :) That and my T60p laptop has a stupidly high res screen (1600x1400 or very similar) so the text is small enough so that I get a really nice working environment. Oh and a minimum res of 1920x1080.

So far I've taken a look at Dell's P2210H 21.5" monitor which will do the required res and having seen them in action I don't believe I'll be taxing my ATI 4980 driving two of these. Alternatively the Dell SP2309w purely due to its non-standard res but means more real estate for me to play with since I have multiple things open at one however with either of these I'm not sure whether the DPI will be high enough for my needs so would like some options from yourself if possible :) Now yes the SP2390w is out of budget but in that case I'd just buy one at a time.

Really do appreciate your input on this one cause I'm totally confused as to what kind of DPI I'd be looking at to meet my (albeit) tough requirements.

Web browsing and document work means you want 16:10, but at under $200 means all IPS panels are ruled out. You can find many 16:10 TN panels at 1680x1050 resolution, but you won't find many at 1920x1200 resolution. 1080 panels are 16:9 and some folks don't like using this aspect ratio for anything aside from watching movies and playing consoles.

Hey VShin,

Thanks for the reply :)

The res you posted about is too low for my requirements as I'm used to the bigger resolutions + I already have a TN panel and never had any problems with them. Plus since I game at 1920x1080, I won't really be loosing a lot on the horizontal by stepping down from 1920x1200..

I think I'll just grab two of the P2211H or P2311H monitors from Dell and see how I get on with them but people's views on these monitors are few and far between unfortunately :(

Cheers
Dino

These are LCDs we are talking about so for a given screen size resoloution and DPI are essentially just different ways of specifying the same thing.
