SHORT VERSION: looking for monitor to replace fw900. $200-250 budget. MMO-games and RTS mostly.
like the samsung 2343bwx, 2209wa dell, and the massive 28" hanns-g.

Reccomendations plz? and thx.

------------------------------

Hey guys...

I was browsing Newegg the other day and saw the Samsung 2343BWX (the 16:9 weird one) for $154 open-box. I waited 3 days before I went to buy it and the damn open-boxes are gone and the new ones are $229

Right now I have the HP version of the Sony FW900 (the HP A7217A). I love it, but I'm having some issues with it and wanted to move it to one of my lesser-used computers. (My linux server). I know what it needs to fix it, the name escapes me now, but I'd rather not. I might be moving cross-country and leaving a lot of crap behind, and I'm not going to lug this 110lb behemoth around with me.. SO, I'm looking into LCD's.

Mainly I play EVE-Online. With the lag experienced in the huge pvp scenarios, I'm not much worried about response time (because I'll be lagged out anyway).

I haven't played any fast-action FPS in a while and probably won't.

I do play World in Conflict, will be looking to try Darkfall Online, and I play RTS games as well. (Empire Total War, Company of Heros, etc).

My budget is $200.
I'd like to keep it under that unless (as we all know) something appeals a LOT to me and then I just throw in the extra money.

So, this monitor is supposedly 22.5 inches of viewing. I was looking at 23 and these weird 23.6" monitors, and 24's.

Please, let the reccomendations fly. Newegg links would be best. I have a microcenter nearby, best buy of course, and circuit city in case any of you know any deals going on in these places right now. Have a BJ's and a Costco too.

Thanks guys!
It's always great coming to this forum to read about displays. I've been here on and off for a few years, just trying to keep up with technology.

-Pete

[Edit] I'm using an 8800GTS 640 Evga card. Would like to have a DVI plug on the monitor if possible.

anyone? no one? I'm really thinking of going Samsung because of their dead-pixel policy. I've seen some of you bought ASUS, but...... they have 8 pixel policy? ugh

Coming from CRT, I won't be able to stomach even 1 dead pixel.

Are Samsung the only ones who have zero-dead-pixel policy? And its only on specific monitors?

The Dell 2209WA with its E-IPS panel will be the closest to your FW900 for image quality. All Dell Ultrasharp displays have a 0 bright pixel guarantee for the full length of the warranty, and they pay shipping both ways for exchanges.

The only negative with the 2209WA (assuming you get a good example) is the 1680x1050 resolution, if you are used to using the FW900 at higher resolutions.

Thanks Gerry!
I was reading about the 2209WA earlier.. it looks like a really nice deal, especially calling Marco Polo or whoever the hell he was.

I saw that 28" monstrosity at Costco and it had me thinking "Why am I a BJ's member and not a Costco member?" but.. it's still kind of costly.

But yes, I've really been considering this 2209,and yeah, I've been running the fw900 @ 1920x1200 and I kinda was hoping to match or improve my current 22.5 inches of screen. It is excellent to know about the 0 dead pixel policy here tho.. that's becoming more and more of a push to me towards who I select to give my business.

I guess I can't really bitch about half an inch..
can you run the 2209WA in 1920x1080?

Well, everything I've been reading makes me want this 2209 except the resolution.
Is this for sale in any of the major stores? Best Buy sells dell stuff, right? I'd like to look at one in person see if I can stomach that resolution..

So now im reading all this shit about the invertor noises and all that other crap..

I like this asus 23.6" monitor and the Sammy 16:9 23"..................... you guys still like that dell? I agree on the 0 pixel policy and their support.. but..... lots of issues coming up in the other thread lately? Kinda scary..
