For the new year, I've decided to treat myself to something a wee bit bigger than my 15" LCD from Viewsonic. I'm so used to using my dual 19" setup at work, that when I come home I really have no desire to game at all.

So, I am looking for something that cover a lot of features, here is my list so far of things I would want:

Budget: $800

Adjustability (yes I know that isn't a word): The more the better. Vertical tilting is not needed, and is only a bonus.

Panel: S-IPS or similar. TN is a last resort, but I feel anything beyond TN will make for better DVD viewing (wide angles, more than just me in the room watching DVDs)

Uses: Mostly general computer use, some movie watching, some gaming, minor graphic creation. Planning on Xbox 360 gaming.

Size: 20" and over. Anything beyond 24" is too large. Hell im not even sure if 24" would fit on my desk (have an overhead shelf attached. From the top of my desk, to the upper shelf, I have two and half DVD cases heights of clearance. Not sure how many inches that is.

Misc: 1080p support with HDCP I think would be important for watching HD-DVD movies from an Xbox 360. 1:1 Pixel mapping is something I would want, considering how I want to hook up an xbox 360 on it and get 1080p.

So with all of that, is there something you guys could suggest? Any comments/opinions on my wishlist? Something you should inform me in regard to specifics, features, new things in Q1 2007, anything, please please please reply. I want to make my purchase an educated one.

Thank you!

well ur budget is 800 UDS and u seem to want 1080p support.

I'll look around right now and see what i can find, right now im thinking of these

Dell™ UltraSharp™ 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor and use 2 of them, im not sure about panel becasue of dell lotery

You'll want something with HDCP support, so maby if u could find a nice LG or Viewsonic

Im headed out right now to take a look at a few LCD's and if i see anything good ill post yo some info.

If you really want 1080p you'll have to at least step up to a 24" panel. The Dell 2007WFP suggested above won't be capable of 1080p but it is HDCP (for whatever that is worth right now) and has 1:1 pixel mapping. There are several 24" models on the market right now so you might want to focus on shopping for that size...the Dell 2407WFP is probably the best value at the moment but all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. In other words...nobody has made the perfect 24" widescreen yet so you have to figure out which one is best for your needs.

What will be the price of the new 24" Benq that has 1:1 pixel mapping?

As well, does the 20" Dell has 1:1 pixel mapping?

Have no idea what Benq you're talking about or the MSRP. Also, from above^^...

Which one? FP241W (fixed), FP241WZ, or FP241VW? The latter 2 will have the fix. The WZ is $100-200 USD more than the W. I don't know about the VW price.

Read the feature lists on the Benq site. Basically, the WZ & VW have BFI (AMA-Z) and the W doesn't. Also, the VW is fugly.

Does the 1:1 pixel mapping version of this monitor have a difference in price?

Also, I REALLY want to know what you guys think the best 22" monitor is for all DVD watching, general computer use, and xbox 360 gaming. Im torn.

When the WZ and VW models hit the street (they are new and recently started being manufactured), they will have the 1:1 pixel mapping feature.

The fixed W model is expected to hit the streets sometime around the end of January or the beginning of February. But, watch the FP241W thread as there is a lot of discussion on this expected timeframe.

You can also buy a non-fixed W model and have it "repaired" at a later date at your expense (shipping both ways and possibly a $45 fee, depending on who at Benq you talk to).

By the way, all of the above info I got from the FP241W thread. I suggest reading through the last 2 weeks of posts and to continue watching it moving forward (at least until you make your purchase :) ).

Oh, one last bit of info - several people in this forum have indicated that for the best xbox360 experience you would want to play in 1080p and you can only get that on a 24" (or above) monitor. Just what I read - I have no idea if that is true or not, though. Something to keep in mind.

Well just a quick question, beyond this monitor, what is the best 20" LCD for DVD watching and Xbox 360?
