Monitor purchasing dilemma

I am in the market for a new monitor.

I am coming from a Catleap 27" 1440p monitor. I brought that monitor to work and i've been using a 24" 1080p ips at home.

I want something bigger than 27" with at least a 1440p resolution. I m not going to be doing any professional work, but I want the screen to be pretty good.

So I tried to order an Acer B326HUL, but I didn't like it. The size is great and the resolution is good, but the color was all off. The gray color on [H] would fade 3 or 4 different colors for example.

I really like the 21:9 aspect; however 2560x1080p wont work and 3440x1440 is atleast $800+.

Mainly play RPGs, MMORPGs, and RTS games.

Budget: Looking to spend under $400. Willing to go $600-$650 for something good.

Strongly considering a ud590, but im not crazy about 4k at 28"

I know it sounds like im rambling, but i've been looking for awhile and can't find something that offer good quality at a reasonable price.

Hmm with that budget it's pretty much impossible to find something that's larger than 27 inches while also being 1440p at minimum apart from what you already tried out. I will say not to buy the UD590 though as I have one and it's a regrettable purchase for me. A better purchase might be a Dell 4k 27 inch IPS but since you want something larger than 27 inch the only other thing I can think of for $600 is to wait for Vizio's UHD M Series TV's which hopefully will do 4:4:4 chroma at UHD 60hz.

this is the unfortunate truth that i'm realizing.

I think I would want a 32" screen for 4k and that'll run at least $1k.

I love the dell u3415w, but it seems like some games (i.e. gw2) are not quite read for 21:9 yet.

The Dell looks perfect in every way except for size. What's the point of 4k if I need to set scaling up to 150%-200% just to use it.

IDK, I'm just having a really hard time justifying spending over $600 for a monitor. My catleap @ $300 did everything I wanted it to do. I just want it to be a little bigger for a more immersive experience.

I guess the only other monitor right now for me to try would be the envy 32, which uses the same panel as the acer i'll be returning. Maybe they did better job with it or mine was just defective.

There is the Benq 3200 which is good if you don't mind the input lag on it. 32" 1440p VA.

I have been flip flopping on getting this for a week or so now. It sounds like as long as you nab a post-november model, they're pretty decent little VA screens. Short of getting something from Korea, I have yet to find a better bang for my buck at that size and resolution while still having good color quality.

I'm holding off for the slim chance that something crazy is available in IPS in March, but it seems like most of the market is going either 4k or 21:9, both of which don't play well with what I want (sub $700 and ppi of ~96 so that all my CAD apps aren't migrane-inducingly small.)

Hope you find something sweet, doug.

Is this worth the $220 premium over the HP Envy 32?

Yeah that is what i'm realizing too. I'm typing on my 27" Catleap right now, and it really is nice. But after testing the 32" size out last night, I would really like the extra real estate.

I don't mind 4k or 21:9. But both 21:9 and 4k are expensive. At 30"+ 4k monitor will push you over the $1k mark and a 21:9 monitor will be over $800.

Man, the Envy does have some rather appealing features. I guess I need to go find a PWM screen to look at and see if that bothers me. If not, it's hard to argue that price point.

If you end up with a game that doesnt support the 21:9 on a 34UM95, worse case scenario you play it at 2560x1440 and it's the exact same size as your 27" 1440p monitor. I love my 34UM95 and couldn't imagine anything else at this point.

Ideally I would jump all over a u3415w. I just can't justify the $1k price point.

I've had a few swings at used 34um95s for $650-700, but they all ended up not working out.

The three things that stop me from dropping the $800 on a 34um95:
1) GW2, one of my favorite games, doesn't really support 21:9. While it will display it, the UI map is stuck.
2) $800 is twice as much as the HP Envy 32, $500 more than a korean 27", and $200 more than the Benq 32". For some reason i'm having a hard time justifying the added cost.
3) Blacklight bleeding is such a hit or miss with all the 21:9 ips monitors.

I might give the envy 32 a swing and see what happens. Then in a few years give it to my son and drop the $$ on a perfected 21:9 variant.

That kinda of what i'm thinking. Also, the reviews are fantastic from nearly everybody.
Amazon 4.5/5
Best Buy 4.8/5
NewEgg 5/5

So just had a moment of weakness.

I ordered the HP Envy 32 for $440 from BestBuy ($390 after cashback and reward certificates). Good price + good reviews swayed me.

I then for some strange reason checked the price of the 34um95 @ Amazon and noticed that the warehouse deals had one for $695. So of course, I also ordered that one....

So HP Envy 32 will be in Friday and LG 34UM95 will be in Saturday.... All while ACER B326HUL is sitting on my desk at home awaiting return....

I guess the plan will be to give the LG a test spin and see if it's worth the extra $300 over the HP.

Wife is going to kill me.

Your pain is my gain! Hope that LG works out. That's a heck of a deal if it's just superficial scuffs.

Until last night, I had never had a bad experience with Amazon "acceptable" quality items as they were always only cosmetic flaws. Got in a espresso machine that was rated acceptable and it didn't work at all. Fingers crossed things turn out better with the LG panel.

Looks like you might have snagged something sweet with that 34um95. Warehousedeals has it listed at $808 now. Maybe I should have done the same =/

Looking closer seems like it's a damaged packaging version now. I shall keep my hawk like eyes upon it...and see how you like it. Hah.

I'll know more today. The ones left in warehouse deals are "Very Good" condition. I snagged one in "Acceptable" condition. I had have good and bad experiences with that. Once I got "acceptable" that was like new and once it looked like it had been dragged behind a car for a mile...

If that Envy is any good, I might just swing by best buy and cease all this flip flopping. I might even convince myself to get a freedom arm since it's such a good price.

Just plugged in the LG. I'm not even taking the HP envy out of the box. I'll be stopping by BestBuy to return it tomorrow.

This "Acceptable" LG looks brand new. There are a few scuffs on the bottom of the casing, but that is all I can find. Looks brand new.

Well jeez...look what you made me do. Mine will be here Monday. :D

Wait so you ordered a Dell, LG, and HP all at once?

Haha. Yeah.

Originally ordered Acer 32". Panel came in with a faint black bar and jacked up colors. Returned.

Ordered HP Envy 32. Came across LG 34UM95 deal minutes later. Ordered LG. Went to cancel HP and couldn't.

The day that HP and LG were set to deliver, Dell U3415W deal pops up. Ordered Dell. Returned HP to Best Buy without even opening it.

Opened the LG and love it. Condition was much better than I expected. BLB/Glow is only faint in the bottom left corner. I was going to flip the LG for what I paid + shipping, but it looks like that is pretty much the going rate for them. So i'll just be returning the LG.
