well i started my pc up today and my monitor isn't working i have checked all cables and that. i turn it on and it comes on then shuts off and stays off. it's a crt. any ideas?

Does your crt have an indicator light in the front? Some models will have a green light when on and an amber light if it's on but no signal. Other models it'll be solid green for normal use then blinking green light for on and no signal.

Is your video card firmly seated in the motherboard?

Could be any number of things. I would look into vid card first. When my monitor didn't come on it was because my memory was in the wrong slots...so yeah, simple first then move to complicated. Most likely the vid card.
