I have an XPS410 and bought a Samsung 204b 20.1" monitor to go along with it. I've had both for about a month now and everything has been great except every now and then the monitor goes blank for a split second and then comes back up. It won't do it very often but sometimes it does it back to back.

It is hooked up with a DVI cable that came with the monitor. I also thought it might be my video card that came with the computer (7300LE) but I just upgraded it to a BFG 7900GS OC and it just did it again tonight.

I'm thinking it might be a defective cable or maybe it's the monitor.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

This is very common with the 204B. Sorry, but it's time to RMA.

Well actually you may try first replacing the cable. I believe this was the cause in one instance (perhaps the bundled cable is bad?)

I switched it back to the VGA cable and it's working fine in COH and when anything else I am doing.

After I switched video cards I kinda figured it was the monitor. I guess I'll take it back to CC and exchange it for a new one. I don't feel like buying another DVI cable.

There's another forum that has more posts and an explanation that it is just a bad batch of monitors that was made in China at a certain time of the year. Just search Samsung 204B flicker and you'll find the thread.

My first 204B did the black/blinking screen thing. It did it with both DVI and analog. I sent it back to AMAZON and tried another one. The defective one had a manufacture date of Jan 2007 made in china. My replacement monitor which has been working fine for almost a month also has a made in china manufacture date of Jan 2007. Go figure.
