Monitor Mount with Keboard Tray, wireless hardware

can you explain a little better what youre trying to do? sounds like you want wireless usb and wireless monitors at the interface?

I am installing 10 of these Monitor Mounts with Keyboard Trays and I don't want to have cables, because these mounts are going to be used by my customers in my restaurant. I need to connect on each computer a keyboard, mouse, printer, and the wireless internet. I am trying to avoid using cable, obvious reasons.

Is there any package that will give me wireless keyboard, mouse and receivers for the printer? I know they sell cards with antennas for a wireless internet connection..

thanks

where is the computer going to be relative to the monitor/kb? are you trying to eliminate wires between computer and monitor/kb or between the computer and the wall or both?

Each cpu will be close to each station with the Monitor Mounts & Trays (pretty much on the floor - hidden). So from these CPUs I need to make the connection wireless to the screen and mouse. From the CPU to the router it has to be Wireless, this router will be 20 feet from the computers.

well there are ways to wirelessly get the output to your monitor, none of them would be cost effective. think $100-200 per computer. it also doesnt make sense because no matter what you do, you will still need a power cable to the monitor, so if you already have one wire going to it, why not just add one more and save ~$150 per computer? the mouse and keyboard are easy, i would just check slickdeals if youre not in a hurry and next time one of the unified mouse+kb setups like this one comes up, get 10 of them together. even the regular price of $30 each isnt bad. you use one usb receiver for both devices, and the range should be more than enough. just remember that with wireless inputs youre going to be replacing batteries a lot. i have never heard of wireless usb hubs. wireless keyboards dont have usb ports because they would kill the batteries way too fast. if you need usb ports for the users, then get monitors with 2-4 ports on them and run a third cable (usb) to the monitor along with the power and hdmi cables. if you dont want sound, then you can definitely get away with wireless in the desktops and only have a power cord, usb, and hdmi cable coming from the cpu total, which isnt too bad.

Let me strongly recommend against this.

I understand the goal, and having a slick looking installation can go a long way to impressing people.

But ultimately if your staff can't enter orders because the wireless mice all freeze up when the microwave turns on or they conflict with each other or run out of batteries during the dinner rush, you're going to be very unhappy.

Personally, I recommend wireless nothing.

Get some F6 Wrap-Around Braided Sleeving, and a bunch of zip ties and spend 20 minutes per station bundling up all the cables, and I think you'll be much happier long term.

Until someone spills a drink on the keyboard and you spend 10 minutes cutting it all apart, then you'll wonder what you were thinking.

i dont think wireless mouse/kb are such a big deal. they would have to be within a few feet of the microwave to have any problems.

Is touchscreen even an option? Many POS applications support touchscreens natively, and you can even by a touchscreen cover to mount to a normal monitor.

I was thinking that too. I've worked on the computers in a few restaurants and let me tell you, you want touch screen. There is almost no effective way to be quicker with the keyboard and mouse for the average person, especially if its not some crazy intuitive keyboard navigation.

Notebook computer would meet the requirements, or All-in-One computer. Bluetooth or propietary wireless should be fine for keyboard/mouse. Maybe keep a server keyboard handy at a crucial station for when everything goes to crap.

All-In-One was my first thought as well. Everything you need all in one nice package. I also agree that wireless is not the way to go for keyboards and mice. Between batteries and the increased chance of loss/theft/interference/breakage, it seems like wired would make more sense.

Thank you guys for the replies and your approaches. Now I have to reconsider my idea since its true it may create more problems with the batteries, and connections.

Somebody mentioned about a spills on keyboards, and thats a good point, well I think I might just go with waterproof keyboards now since I will be offering coffee on the stations.

Also a Touch Screen computer could be a good solution. I heard that Windows 8 it will be a touch interface, that might do it...

I just realize that these monitor with keyboard trays comes with cable managment. Wireless sounds fun sometimes but I think it comes with some cons..

thanks again!

Wireless Keyboards and Mice are the devil. In 99.8% of situations they offer absolutely no advantage, and an absolute nightmarish level of disadvantages.
