Monitor making strange noise/not working

Ok my 19" Viewsonic CRT is makes a strange noise when I turn it on. It makes the normal noise it makes when turning on, but then kinda draws out that sound and it's deeper I think. Anyway, then it just shuts off. It was working fine 2 days ago, then I left for 2 days.. came back and it was doing this. It was unplugged the whole time I was gone too. I actually did get it to turn on again, but not for a while. Should I just forget about this or does this mean the end of my monitor?
 
how old is it .. and have you checked it on another machine make sure it's not the video card ?
 
it's pretty old.. i think i got it in 98. i bought 2 then though and the other one is having no problems. it's not the video card b/c it did it even w/ the cable not connected to thie vid. card. it's not doing anything bad now, it just wouldnt turn on for an hour or so.. kinda strange.
