Monitor looks blurry

my old monitor died and i took my brothers ibm monitor that he wasnt using but eveyrthing llooks so blurry. letters mostly look fuzzy and strain my eye when i have to read too much. is there any option thatll fix this? or is it just the monitor?
 
how old is it? A monitors focus gets poorer over time
what settings is it at? Whats the max?

its 1024X768 at 75 represh rate
its fairly old.
i did that 'clear type' effect thing too and didnt help.
its giving me a headach looking at the screen :p
 
well it might be due to blurry but from my personal experience i can't really stand a refresh rate of 75..... its a bit too flickering to me... .. i personally like a minimum of 85hz for a refresh rate.. thats the lowest i can go without hurting my eyes or notice flickering...
anything lower it really bothers me... btw wat size is the monitor and wat about other resolution like 800X600 ? did u try that out? i know its too small but given its age u will never know ^^
 
Yeah, def sounds like it's on it's way out... Does the display seem dim? Perhaps one color shade permiates the picture?

Cleartype makes text look even worse on a CRT , If the CRT itself is going bad the only thing I can think of is try decreasing the Contrast setting to see if it helps for now. I know most CRT's have a Focus adjustment inside but theres some serious voltage stored in a CRT so i'd be careful if you go that route ..I opened up and adjusted the focus on a older 27" TV before it was just a small knob inside that was labeled Focus. I wouldnt mess with any other knobs that might be in there especially if you see one labeled "G2".
