I posted this in the Display section and no one responded back so I figured I would try one more time in the general hardware.

My friends laptop Monitor will not come on. The laptop will power up, but the monitor will not come on. And if you connect it to another monitor, it still will not come on. Took it to the geek squad at best buy and they couldn't fix it, offered to send it out to get fix for like 170 bucks.

Laptop specs is:
It is a Sony VAIO Laptop: Model SVE15D11L
OS: Windows 7 HOME
Processor: i5

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Also is there a way to pull data from the hardrive(Music, Videos, etc)?

Appreciate any help, thank you.

Spend the $170 to fix it. It could be anything. You should be able to pop out the hard drive (you should be able to google how to replace hard drives on that model laptop to see how that's done if you need to) and plug it into a USB hard drive dock to pull off data from another computer if you don't want to chance the Geek Squad sending it wherever to get it fixed. No guarantees the hard drive works, but I assume it's a laptop motherboard issue and the data is fine.

I think the laptop is old enough that if you can pull data off the drive, then probably time to look for a new laptop. $170 is a lot to spend on an old laptop, and the battery of the laptop could be failing soon.
