So, I am in need of a new monitor for gaming/browsing. My old monitor was a Samsung Syncmaster 19", and I was very content it and want to be equally satisfied with my next purchase.

I have researched the issue some, but it have only aggravated my indecisiveness:confused:. I have narrowed it down to a few choices though.

Dell Ultrasharp 24

Acer GD235HZ

Dell G2410

Possibly larger HDTV that I can combine into a tv/monitor

To help you help me draw on your experience, let me raise a few questions.

- Is Dell Ultrasharp 24's picture quality really that good? What about the reported exessive brightness in regards to reading on alot of white background? Can the brightness be adjusted without losing alot of PQ? Considering the price is 80% more expensive, would you really say it's worth it over the other choices?

- I have read alot of bullish reviews for 120hz, but is acer really a good enough monitor in regards to contrast? What about the reported blurriness of text when you have it in 120hz mode - is that the norm?

- About the G2410, how does it situate compared to the Ultrasharp 24, especially compared to being 37% cheaper

- My parents have a 4 year old LCD HDTV that makes me want to puke when i hook it up to a laptop. How compareable are HDTVs to monitors nowadays? I thinking perhaps of samsungs 6000 line if I decide to go with a HDTV.

I know it's alot of questions, but I am grateful for any help, regards.

Just thought I'd suggest that you add the HP ZR24w to your "monitors of interest" list, although it's not out yet it's not that far off and it's very anticipated and hopefully will be a very good middle-ground between a bit higher end Wide Gamut monitors and a the cheaper models. I am at least waiting for it to see how it will perform and then making my decision on what monitor to buy (I'm hunting for one as well)

Unfortunately I just don't know enough to give accurate and good answers to any of your questions, all I can say is I really Prefer 1920x1200 over 1920x1080 :) But just check out this thread for info about the ZR24w: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1491561
