Is FRAPS still used to monitor frame rates these days?

I'm a noob. I just built my system and got 2x 6950's running. I want to play around with them unmodded but as soon as I feel comfortable I'm going to unlock the shaders and also OC cpu but anything I should know about GPU in terms of apps to use?
