I'm posting for someone that can't register here. He's looking for a new monitor and I can't answer a few things.

Here's what he's looking for (I modified it some to be a little more clear):
-LCD at least 20 inches widescreen

-1080p input support over VGA to fully take advantage of the 1680*1050 resolution of the monitor with the HD-DVDs played from a 360

-Good quality overall

-$200-$300 budget

-HDCP for future use with the PS3

-And probably important to have aspect mode to keep 16:9 from filling to 16:10, so no distortion.

Anyway, I suggested these two at first:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254020

Thing is, there are two things I can't answer.

Like all these 1080p supporting monitors, yes I know they are not 1080p, do they support over both VGA and DVI, or just DVI? It's important to know for Xbox 360 use. So once setup with a monitor that does over VGA and has an aspect mode to show 16:9 with bars, it will roughly equal 945p, much better than limiting yourself to 1360*768 over VGA.

2nd, They never clearly list the imaging modes on these monitors to know if there are all the modes like Fill, Aspect, and 1:1. The Aspect mode being important to know here. Suprising they don't list such a thing with all the new uses for HD consoles that are 16:9 instead of a 16:10

Here's the thread for this guy:

I know this is asking for the perfect 20.1-22inch LCD monitor that does everything right, not leaving one option behind :)

Thanks

Dell 2007WFP
Samsung 226BW

Anything outside of a good brand I wouldn't recommend, which is why I recommend what I do.. if theres a problem, it can be returned.. and you're friend sounds quite picky, which is ok, but requires him to spend a little more.

He's someone at gamespot forums I tried to help and it was my advice what to look for that lead to those picky options.

It seems from what I found with a quick look, the Samsung seems to somewhat work with the PS3 using 1080p with DVI. Will the monitor support 1080p via VGA? I don't think it's a picky option, as for a 360 that little bit of support would change the monitor from just plain 768p to 945p for the 360, which can make a difference for movies. But if that kind of option is rare, so be it, that's why I was checking.

i wish i had a vga cable for my 360 but i use it on my tv... one of two things will happen.. it will allow 1080p and then scale it to 1050.. or force it to 1280x720.
