Is there actually a point to installing monitor drivers? When I installed the Viewsonic Unsigned Drivers I saw absolutely no changes...

On most of the monitors, no, but with NEC/Mitsubishi, yes. I get refresh rates that we're not avalible without the driver, and the naviset utility. No reason not to install 'em either.
 
I have run into this issue before. With win98 viewsonic drivers were almost essential for my monitor to keep a specified refresh rate and not resetting back to 60Hz after the next reboot. But for winXP, I don't really need the drivers but it does take away the refresh rates in display properties that my PF790 cannot support. So I guess it would be a safety feature for XP to make sure you don't damage your viewsonic by using a higher than max refresh rate.
