Monitor Delay - Help Needed

I have recently upgraded from an 8800 GT to an XFX Radeon HD4890 graphics card. After I made the switch I noticed my monitor takes a minute to display anytime one of the following happens: Bootup, reboot, resolution change, start a game, and a few other various instances.

On bootup, the monitor just stays blank until well into the Windows startup sequence. I miss the opportunity to enter the bios and all of that (I can actually still get to the bios I just have to spam the delete key because I can't really see the correct time to hit it).

When I start up a game I miss all of the opening scenes (though I can still hear them in the speakers), and when the monitor finally comes alive I am already at the opening menu.

I would say it takes anywhere between 30 seconds - 1 minute for the monitor to display. If I adjust the resolution in Windows, same thing.

Is there anything I can do about this? I have searched google and I only found a couple of sites with similar experiences documented and there was never a solution given.

My monitor is an Acer 1080p 16x9 24". It was working perfectly with the 8800GT. I put the 8800GT back in and ran the same monitor and did NOT experience the same problem. It worked just like it always had.

I have already updated to the latest Catalyst drivers for WIndows 7 64-bit.

The video card has been bios overclocked, not sure if that matters.

Everything in my signature is up to date except the video card which I have already noted has been upgraded. My PSU is a CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Everything you describe seems like it's having problem with mode changing (switching resolutions). I don't know if I've ever seen this before; my best guess would be a bad DVI transmitter (since this is happening before you get into an OS and the driver takes over). Try using the other output (HDMI/DVI, whatever you have on that 4890) in a single display configuration. Manufacturers use different transmitters for each output, so unless it's a fault with the chip; maybe that'll help.

BTW, what type of cable are you using? Dual Link DVI-I, HDMI?

I guess HDMI. It is just the normal cable for the monitor which plugs into the standard port on the video card.

I have tried both ports and both give me the same results. I have done some experimenting and the problem only exists when I use the 24" Acer on this video card.

I have another monitor which I plugged into the 4890 and everything worked perfectly. I plugged my Acer back in and got the delay again. I reinstalled the 880GT, plugged the Acer in and everything ran perfectly. I also ran the Acer from the onboard graphics card and other than not having a driver installed it appeared to be functioning normally.

So this problem is specific to the combination of XFX HD4890 and Acer 24". I have not been able to reproduce the error with any other monitor/card combination.

I updated the Acer monitor driver just in case, no change.
