I'm looking to cover my monitor. My roommate comes in my room when I'm not around to use my desk for his schoolwork (his desk is messy), and I don't want him sneezing, etc on my 2405. Are there any options for covering a 24" widescreen? I was thinking of buying some kind of material and fashioning my own, but wasn't sure what kind of material to buy that would both protect and not scratch.

Thanks for any suggestions!

take a cat... skin it.... you can kill it first, easier but less fun, and there you go you have a very good monitor protector

you could simply find a big enough box, cut the back and bottom and leave it 4-6inch deep and you cover the monitor with it and nothing will be touching the monitor not even the cover it self...

Nah, a cat is too small for a 24" better use a dog instead.:p

A visit to a fabric store, some thread and needles and maybe a DVD Golden Girls and you should be good to go.

Seriously guys,any ideas ? :D I too am interested...

What ever happened to that member who was making Dell 2005/2405FPW travel bags ?

Does he still make them ? are there any alternatives ?

Manny Calavera, i was being serious :p

I'm not sure what is the exact word but a pillow cover (cloth covering the pillow to protect it and look pretty) could be big enough to cover it.

You sew the open side, and cut the bottom so the large side is opened and you slip it on the monitor...

What the hell, this isn't rocket science. Lay a towel, pillowcase, etc over the thing when you're not using it. :p

Don't most monitors come with a cover in the packaging? I always use that when I move mine. :)

If not, just get something like the other guy said, get a king sized pillow case and cut the side out and keep it connected on both ends. One end will be open but whatever. :p It'll work for the most part.

If you are that worried about your roomie you may want to cut some lexan up, make a box, and put a combo lock on it. lol, j/k.

had the same problem with the kids leaving finger print marks on my screen. so what i did was go to a glass shop. and had them custom cut me a piece with smooth rounded edges. and mounted it with black round stickies. glare is not a issue for me and now my lcd is easier to clean and looks great. total cost was 18.00 for the glass and a few bucks for the stickies.
22" piece of glass widescreen

Setup your O/S so that you have to have a password and fast user switching is disabled.. then lock your computer, so he doesn't have a reason to sit in front of it.. or if hes just using your desk, tell him if he makes a mess of anything you'll piss in his clothes..:)

I have problems with my roomie too.. he blames me for him missing class because I "have bad sleeping habbits" I generally goto bed at 12-1ish, and get up at 9.. He comes back drunk 2-3 nights a week and sleeps through his classes, and thats "my fault".. crossed the line when he started eating my food.. not just some but.. the majority of it.. Then denies it when brought up.. the gall of some people, its just sad.

Oh Christ, I didn't really read his post that carefully. Dude, your roommate comes in your room when you are gone? WTF? I used to roommate with a best friend but I would have had a hard talk with him if he had even stepped foot in my room when I was gone much less used anything. I am not going to be an enabler. Deal with the real problem, he/she needs to respect your boundaries.

But just in case you don't grow a pair...:D http://www.buypcsupplies.com/dustcoversvinyl.html?source=google&kw=monitor%20cover&r=S&cr=794939224&pl=

That is kinda like what I have been doing, covering them at night with pillow cases after I turn them off of course. Its a good way to keep the dust of of them during the night.

Seriously. My roommate is my best friend. We've known each other for years. If the guy wants to use my desk, he can. I'm not a badger (yes, a badger) trying to guard my territory. I'm just trying to cover the monitor for when he uses the desk, and even when I'm using the desk and not the computer. I'm not worried about the security of the computer. Just the general maintenance of the screen.

I'll try the pillowcase idea. Thanks.
