I need to make a decision between some monitors and could use your help. I want something good for gaming but also has a "true" picture. I know its something we all want but given whats out and may come out soon are there any good options for me that dont compromise too much.

I currently have a Sony SDM-HS95P/S and some specs can be found here: http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/tft-monitor/sony-sdm-hs95p-b/details/
I want something larger and am looking at 23" and 24" monitors.

This is what i was considering:
-Dell UltraSharp U2311H 23": http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-9270
-Dell UltraSharp U2410 24": http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-8277
-Alienware OptX AW2310 23": http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-8846

Ive read a good bit on all of them and still dont know what to go with. I really dont know how much worse the Alienware picture will be. I play games but also like detail so ive always tried to see the monitor in person before buying one. With this i dont have that luxery. Id also like to know what size the actual viewable screen and overall with of the frames will be. I have about 22.75" of width i can fit on the desk. I see the Dell 23" is about 21.6" wide and the 24" dell is 22" wide. I dont see that spec for the alienware but at 23" im sure width will be ok. I know im going to like the 1920x1200 better than 1920x1080 but the cost and the alienwares 120hz is throwing me for a loop. I doubt ill buy the 3d stuff right off but probably will at some point. I know i cant use it with the two dell labeled screens. That link about messing with your depth perception with regular use has me a little weary though.

Let me know what you think

Ill add that one to the list to read up on.

Another thing is is see many of you calibrate the monitors. What tools do you use to do it and if they are not free are there any rentals or anything avaliable?

How about new monitors not out yet. Are there any that you have heard of that may be with waiting for in the 23" - 24" range?

For me the resolution, 1920*1080 vs 1200 and the lack of an HDMI port make me want to get the U2410. I suppose you could use adapters or an hdmi to displayport/hdmi.

Paying 180$ more (U2410) to majorly sacrifice image quality for a slight bump in screen size and to save yourself from spending 30$ for a HDM-DVI cord doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Well I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm going to compare them more closely. To bad I can't see both in person.

I feel the same way. If i could see them in person that would make all the difference. Given that they had it hooked up so you could see the real display. I hate it when they have all these displays up but none of them attached to a good video source. In this case though im not even lucky enough for them to be out at all.
