Monitor always turning off

As if my monitor "overheats" and turns itself off, so in order to see again I have to press the power button of the monitor off and on again.

It's a somewhat old monitor of course--Xcess Plug & Play. It only turns itself off when I'm browsing the net, writing a document, or pretty much anything else *except* playing a full-screen game.

Is it just dying? Or something internally wrong with it? Or am I better off using a different monitor altogether?

Simple solution. Plug in a different monitor. Works just fine? Dying monitor, replace it.

New monitor same result? Somethings wrong with your PC end.
