Molex Power LED?

I'm always having problems for some reason getting the power LED's to work on case/motherboards, even if I have the map of the pins and everything. Is there any simple converter, like maybe a regular 4 pin molex (the kind that connects power to HD's and everything else), to a simple two pin LED connector, so that whenever you turn the power on, the LED lights up? All I could find is this (Which I might actually buy):

I was just wondering if there was anything else that would do the same thing...

I'm not connecting them backwards... I even looked up what wires were negative and positive (on the motherboard I need this for)... it's just not working. I always get frustrated with the front-panel connectors.. I just figured this would be a lot easier, and it even makes more sense if you think about it. Why doesn't the power LED get power from where the power comes from? The power supply! :)

Why does the power LED even connect to the mainboard anyways? Just seems like that's leaving room open for problems...
 
Is this problem with one case or does it happen with any case? (case might have faulty power led)
If the latter do you take any precautions against ESD?
 
The power LED did die... my dad and I figured it out. I'm still having the problem with the hard drive LED not blinking, and I've definitely put it where it needs to go because I got the manual, and I got a different copy of the manual from someplace I found on google... and it shows exactly which pins I need to put the connector over... but it just stays a solid light. It just won't blink, but it does work at least. I think I'm just going to buy a cheap PCI IDE controller card and that way I can just connect the drives to that and connect the LED to the pins onto it too.

I just wish they made all of these standard, because even newer motherboards seem to have this same problem with me (or... it's just me).

And yea, I ground myself like every couple of minutes by touching the metal on the case.. but that has crossed my mind as well.

Also, on my other computer, I still don't know what to do about the front end USB connectors (there's no pins on the board to connect them too... which I've never personally seen before. I've been looking for some type of card I can just run the USB front end cables into... but it doesn't seem like there is any... and I would think that that card would be a pretty common card, but it doesn't seem like it is.
