Molex connectors stuck

I was copying some stuff to an external IDE drive which I had placed on the table. I used a data cable attached to the MoBo and an 6 inch extension power cable with Molex connectors. When I finished the transfers I had a lot of trouble detaching the extension cables Molex connector from the Antec's Molex. They were stuck like as if they had been super glued together.

Any one know what gets stuck - the pins or the plastic casing ? - Afterwards I pressed the pins a wee bit with a plier and tried the connection again and this time too the 2 connectors were stuck.

Any one have any suggestions about this problem ??

Molex connector pins have barbs on them , when installed in the plastic body to form the connector they may not have been crimped properly and have now become one, You could pull on it hard enough to overcome the barb, but you will have to replace the pins. Its not difficult, and you can get a pin removal tool and pins and crimp tools at radio shack. Or, they were not in enough and arced, effectivly welding the male and female pins together, in which case you'll have to cut it off and replace the pins with some from radio shack. Note, if you have to buy a pin removal tool, donot buy the cheap disposable plastic one, unless you have an inexhaustable supply they can be fustrating to use, spend the $4 for the metal body

Thanks for the reply :)

I will have to look for this pin removal tool - not sure these will be available here - also it may be cheaper to just buy another cable with Molex connectors attached - these assembled cables cost about $0.50 here.

I thought I could just work on the pins on the connector I already have or maybe smoothen the plastic case of the Molex in case this was causes the connectors to get jamned.

Another thing - I dont know of you have noticed in my sig that I called my Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu HS "GREEN" - that is because about 25% of the area of the fins have green oxidation marks. Have you seen this on your Zalman ? I asked Zalman Korea and they answered that there is nothing I can do about it !!!

Yeah, I guess it would be a whole lot cheaper to buy a new cable, as for the Zalman...no I have no oxidation on mine, I've had it for a year now....fortunatly for copper, once it turns green it will not oxidize anymore, so don't try to clean it off (its the same reason why the statue of liberty is green and has not corroded away, the oxide film prevents any further oxidation....in the airline business we use alclad a 100% pure alumium layer on the sheetmetal, once it oxides over it won't corrode anymore, a sort of sacraficial layer ! ) I'll guess its a lot more humid where you are in Mumbai, I reeally don't think its much to worry about, just keep an eye on your temps.

Thanks for the info. I think the Oxidation must have been caused by a mixture of the airbourne pollutants and moisture. My CPU temps are good - so far - about 30C idle. The Zalman really looks BAAAAADD !!! :(

Why do you have to replace the pins? will it not work if you keep using them anyway?
