I'm thinking about doing a briefcase mod and I want to put an LCD into the mod. I know that I can take a laptop LCD and with a bit of work/money mod it into the case. My question is can I take a retail LCD (I'm thinking 15 inch monitor) remove the plastic shell from around the LCD and mount it into a new frame?. I guess without destroying a monitor first I'd like to know if there are potential pitfalls to doing this type of thing.

only thing i can really think of offhand is heat. there's also a potential of some interference, but i'd imagine you could shield that decently well.
