Check this out, a modified printer that can print electronic circuits. Pretty soon, we’ll be able to use our printers to make a whole new computer…and the added vitamin C means that it is good for you too!

A desktop printer loaded with a silver salt solution and vitamin C has been used to produce electronic circuits. The UK researchers behind the feat say their experimental device could pave the way for safer and cheaper electronics manufacturing. Being able to print out electronic components and whole circuit boards could provide an alternative to current manufacturing techniques.

And you thought the cost of current ink cartridges is expensive, woof, just wait for these. :D

That is really, really cool. I would love to have the ability to print my own circuits.. cool.

So now we will have to worry about what DPI our motherboards were made at?

that is the coolest thing i have seen in a long time, i would love to be able to print my own PCB's... literally!

Too bad it only prints the circuit traces. We'll still have to have bins of resistors, capacitors, diodes, inductors, chips, etc. Then they'll have to figure out a way to surface mount stuff on these printed boards without burning them up. Still pretty cool though.

That's all cool, but when will the design a printer that can print me up a pepperoni pizza after printing circuits all day! :D

I remember a few years back reading about the designing of printers to be used to print houses... I wonder if they ever got that off the ground?

I don't think this is the end all solution to circuitry, but perhaps it would do a lot for our disposable products such as throw away cell phones and such... also would do good for testing actual designs.

inkjet printer are surprisingly a VERY advanced technology. there is a lot of interest in them for nano-manufacturing.

yes exactly! no more paying $100 for prototyping a pcb and waiting a week to get it... print it out, populate it, have to make a change? no problem, fix design, print a new one! that would totally kick ass

So we can download RAM! Remember there was a goof on NewEgg.com that said "Download Now" next to some RAM...we can just download the pattern! Now, if only we could bake memory modules in our home ovens...(if that's how it's done, I'm completely ignorant in this area)
